    LOL

I remember when I was selling my Sony Vaio on Ebay, some guy said he had a shop in New York City and one in Nigeria, he said in Nigeria there is a high demand for my particular model, when I finished that part of the email I thought of some poverish man in nigeria looking for my model....anyways back to the story, he wanted me to PROMISE to ship it out ASAP once bidpay said it was cleared, I talked to my friend and he said it was a scam so I didnt do it.

The next day I get another e-mail from a guy who said his wife's bday is coming up and she is doing a sabbatical mission in Nigeria, and the same bidpay story.

The Day after that I got another e-mail, but to get to the point it ended with Nigeria again. Right after I deleted that e-mail I added to my listing, WILL NOT SHIP WORLDWIDE and NO BIDPAY!

    It stopped.

...but why not make it less obvious and use a different country? Or is the machine supposed to actually be sent to some scammer IN THAT COUNTRY? (Why even mension the daughter is Nigeria? Why mension a daughter at all?) - I don't want to give any ideas now, heh ;)

I did some research on the Nigeria scam (cause I'm nerdy like that :p) but this is a scam that has dated back to the 1920s. There is always some kind of sad story to get sympathy from the user. It wouldn't be very good if it was just "hey send me your money while you get nothing". Surprisingly, this scam is actually very successful which kind of scares me. I didn't think people would actually send money to them.

The interesting thing about it is how Bidpay operates, basically the user will agree under the table with another ebay user to ship the item once bidpay confirms the payment, they end up thinking the money is good as theres, but once its shipped out and the scam artist sees the tracking, he will call up bidpay and cancel the cashiers check. That or the money used for the cashiers check is bogus.

Nigeria is used so much, yes they actually get their stuff shipped to them in Nigeria, because the gov't there now has no REAL control and therefore cant enforce anything. So if another gov't complains they wont really do anything.

However the FBI will look into it, but the purchase needs to exceed a certain amount before they will consider it. I think if its under 2000? they wont even look at your case. The fact is, even if they did. chances are they wont get anywhere.
