    Hello-
I have a new Inspiron 6000 that will not stay in standby mode. For example, if I put it in standby before going to sleep, it will be up and running by morning. I don't like that its on all night with the fans running. Does anyone know why it won't "stay asleep"?

Standby only turns off the lcd and hard drive i think. Everything else is still on. Hibernate is what you need. The machince completely turns off, but you do have to cut it on in the morning.

I recommend against hibernation if you can help it. Make sure you don't have wake on LAN turned on. Also see if any remnant programs are still running, that can prevent standby.

that happens to me as well Irstbl, on my 8100. It wakes up out of standby mode when I open the screen. There is a point to which I open the screen and the computer wakes up. Also, it wakes up if I move the move the mouse around a lot or press any key on the keyboard.

When I just let it sit there for an hour and the screen shuts off, I can never get it back running, even hitting the power key. Standby? Or just something odd?

You might also want to check your BIOS. There are settings in there which allows your laptop to wake up depending on USB devices, or you can set a certain time for it to wake up, etc.

Xorlev, I had a similar problem except when mine came out of hibernation/stand by, the screen would freeze. You might check your power options and see what you have set to turn off. Is your HDD still on and its just the screen not turning back on?

For more on hibernation, do a forums search, there was a detailed position against it written that is very good.

Heh the problem I have the most is Bluetooth is incredibly flakey during standby. Sometimes it comes back on sometimes it doesn't, happens with both stacks too.
