    Hey

Is it me or does the Dell xps 1530 start up really really slow.

I have timed it against my lesser AMD athlon 4400+ 2.3ghz, And my desktop leaves my laptop to shame.

I have a dual core 2 t8300 penryn 2.4ghz processor in my dell, should that not speed things up a bit?

I have also wiped my dell totally clean, no fingerprint reader, no webcam, no major startup stuff that would slow it down.

Am I missing an update or doing something wrong ?

Both have 8600gt cards, and 3gb ram.

    Thanks for clearing this up?

what's the hard drive? it should be around 1min 05 sec if my estimations are correct, 1:30 - 2:00 with bloatware. i mean, i have xp runnin on my lg laptop, it has core duo (not core 2 duo), hard drive is 5400rpm and 2 gig ram and i removed as much junk as possible and i get 1:10 sec MAX.

    what times are u gettin?

Quickest I got was 27 seconds startup out of the box. Though after I installed a new hard drive and started everything fresh and installed SP1, startup was about 34 seconds.

    The dell has got a 5400rpm 250hdd.

My acer Im not sure dont know how to check.

The laptop time is over 1 minute I would say, but just, whilst my desktop is under 30secs.

Both have same O/S and everything is the same.

Maybe the desktop has a superfast HDD.

    Im not sure.

Thanks for the tutorial of fixes.

But Im a firm believer in.. if it aint broke dont fix it.

Also Im not that good with messing around with computers, only if its necc.

Plus I tried doing the, stop search thing before and did not notice any difference.

Im just talking about from basic settings, start-up of a XPS 1530 Clean, and and Acer 4400+ Clean.

I think it might have to do with hdd, How do I find out what speed my HDD is?

    Thanks

Well you did order it so it should be on your invoice. Its either 5400RPM or 7200RPM.

You can also look in the Device Manager. Just type in your model number for your hard drive and somebody can look it up for you.

Your desktop will be 99% 7200 RPM. If you really want to find out, go to My Computer, right click on your drive, Properties, find the hardware tab and there you will find the drive model number.

    I have a xps m1330 with a samsung 250gb 5400 rpm hard disk, t7250 and 3gb ram
Right now my laptop boots up ( from dell logo to no activity on the screen and net connected ) in ~45 seconds.
I have avast, rivatuner, rmclock, psql, quickset, gtalk and a few other very small utilities load automatically at startup.
