Just after I boot my I 6400, I notice that in the process tab in task manager that a process, for about a minute or 2, spikes in RAM usage from 20 MB to 50MB then to around 100 MB, then it continues to jump from 50 to 100 until finally, a minute or 2 later, it stablizes to around 35-40 MB. Why is this?

The process in question is svchost.exe (Under the user name of: System)

svchost.exe (usually several of them in task manager) runs in conjunction with another process. do you see any non-svchost process that is also taking up memory or has consistent CPU usage?

Not really. It doesn't bother me, I was just curious.
