Anyway, I've been using a dell desktop for the past year, and I leave it on 24/7, it gets it crashes and restarts but its never turn off, unless the power is out at night, then it might get 1-15hour break, depending if I got school to go to. <- Not needed but I'm just going to put it out their.

So I'm getting a new notebook that some of you may know, and should/ is it okay that I keep it on 24/7 with the screen off while I'm not actively using it, or what? Most likely if I'm told not to, I'll leave it still on 24/7, but just on standby/hibernation, just want to hear come advice. If it matters, which I know it doesn't much, its an 1520, just so if anyone wants to relate units of what they do with it.
Edit: Question #2, I've got the 8600M GT, will it be DDR3 or DRR2, or is it a guessing game with dell, also if its DDR2 can I request for DDR3?
Edit #2: Also what about the bold, will that be find? I'd would like everyone to comment on everything/option <- Just not on my desktop, leaving it on.![]()

you can but the life will cut short.. how short ?.. depends.
why is it that you you don't want to turn the laptop off? -
You should be able to leave it on 24/7 although the heat may eventually shorten the lifespan of the notebook.
And the 1520 only uses GDDR2. No, you can't request for GDDR3. If you want that, get a XPS 1530. -
I think (don't quote me on this) that leaving your computer on constantly will cause more junk/backup/fragmented files of all sorts, which means you will need to defrag and clean up unnecessary files more often.

hibernate it...its much faster if yo add windows ready boost flash drive....
-
just shut the screen when not in use. this puts it to standby. open the lid and its right back where you left it. no wait or lag.
-
ready boost flash drive.... <- For xp?
-
For Vista only. But the benefits of Ready Boost are small, if any.
-
if you leave it on for torrents and such, then you obviously cannot do much else.
I suggest closing the lid enough where it turns off, but not enough to latch. Let a little bit of air in there. -
is there any one care about going green???? save power...

i was saying he can't shut it down. and also, depending on your settings, sometimes it going into hibernation will shut down wifi, but that can be disabled.
Stay On!
