I haven't had much free time to post everything cool about my M1710 I received back at the start of this month, but I wanted to share the following solution I found to preserve the original state of a new Dell lappie.

    1. Take a look at the following .pdf
    http://images.lunarpages.com/pdf/Dell%20Notebook%20Restore%20Utility%20Guide.pdf
    2. Download the bootCD image here
    http://images.lunarpages.com/bootCD.zip

Following the steps outlined in the .pdf will image your drive as sent from the factory. Then you can reinstall the OS (or install Vista for that matter) and still have a backup of your original state.

I have made a couple of backup sets - one 'out of box' and another with all my general apps and configs set up.
