So I called Dell yesterday (Wednesday)
asking for an update on my laptop.
I found out that my laptop (ordered 3-3 or 3-4 cause I called the next day with an upgrade to the order), wasnt even really in the production stage yet as the website said (and has said for weeks without moving). They said due to the problem, anything ordered after 3-3 or so has not even been started or is just being started. The indicator on the website was wrong. I was wondering why it sat in the boxing stage for over a week.
Well this time I got mad at the woman for all the delay and the secrecy around the reason for it. Went into this whole thing about how I had a Gateway for years and how its starting to look like I should consider going back to Gateway.
I argued back and forth until I was cancelling the order all together. She had mentioned in the process that the XPS's have started production and shipping faster then the 9100s. Which may also cause the delay I was experiencing. At the last minute, I suggested (just being spiteful) that they change my order to an XPS for the same price I paid for my 9100. Its only about $400-500 difference if even that. She said if it will keep me being a Dell customer, then she would do it (only after contacting her supervisor and putting me on hold forever). She said she I was lucky as she obviously cant do this for everyone. I was suddenly happy again and am looking forward to the XPS laptop. I thanked her for compensating me for all the delays and stuff. This made it worth it perhaps. This is how companies should be.
So I would suggest that you guys waiting raise some hell with your sales person and see what they can give you.
Both these laptops seem great so far. I hope to know by experience soon!!!

This is interesting! I just ordered my 9100 yesterday. After reading your experience, I am hoping they will delay mine, too.

Not too bad, seems that if you complain loud enough you can get what you want. I had to do something similar recently with my desktop. The abit kd7-raid seem to be bad as I had 3 of them die on me. So I called in and complained on got them to upgrade me to a newer board, and they even paid for shipping both ways.

Dude you are soo lucky, so what are the specs on the XPS they upgraded you too? Man I wish they wouldn't have shipped mine yet or I would try to get the upgrade myself! Mad props man for getting that upgrade enjoy it![

ahhhh.... April Fools.......
The reality is that you all have your 9100s and I am still waiting for mine. So you really have the last laugh.
I DID complain a bit and they upgraded my shipping to the top level for no charge but I didnt get the XPS. And I still dont have my 9100.

Ugh, that was bad. I will tell you a true story though. Forum mod Nesbo had a 5150 that had serious display problems (UXGA). After multiple repairs and still no fix, he complained to the Better Business Bureau and Dell sent him a brand new stacked 8600. The moral of the story is complaining to the BBB works. I've used them before with Microsoft and got a band new XBOX when mine had DVD problems.
