I ordered an Inspiron 1720 on 6/1 and had an initial ESD of 6/9. on 6/9 my machine went through testing and into boxing and here we are on 6/10 and I am still in boxing. My ESD has slipped to 6/16 which is almost unbearable since my 9100 is dead hence my buying the 1720. Called Dell only to have them say the computer is "missing parts". My answer being well how can it be missing parts if it is boxed? The only logical answer to me was that the battery must be on back order. I got the 9 cell separately and have that at home waiting for a laptop to put it in. So I guess the questions are as follows.
How long is the delay for the small battery?
Do you think i have a snowmans chance in hell of getting them to ship it without the battery since i have one at home?
What are the odds I can get them to upgrade the shipping free due to the inconvenience?
-
Boxing can take anywhere from 1-4 days.
-
funny. this is my third dell and i can't remember it taking that long. maybe i was just lucky. My 1720 is spec'd almost the same as your 1530.... cept for that DDR3 vid memory of course. I'll try makin a sig soon.
-
Ok made a lil sig for all the world to see.
-
My 8600GT has 256MB of DDR3.
Currently, I believe there is a 12 day delay on 6-cell batteries (business days, so 5 days per week)
-
I thought the 6-cell shortage was only for the XPS 1530's, which use a specific battery type.
-
Nah, there's 6 cell battery delay for 1350 as well
-
Ok, but this is regarding the Inspiron 1720, and I don't think they have a shortage, at least that I know of.
-
Even on the 1720, there is a 12-day delay for 6-cell batteries. No delay for 9-cells. On the 1525 and 1520's, the 4-cell batteries are on a 20-day delay. Yikes!
-
Great business management by Dell
-
Well as for the DDR3 the 1720 only gets DDR2 in the 8600.
You guys think i can talk a nice rep into sending me the lappy without a battery? I already have a battery at home waiting for a lappy to use it with. It vexes me to see a perfectly good brand new battery knowing i have nothing to plug it into. I can't see the holdup being for anything else. The laptop already went through testing and to boxing.
Also what are the odds of getting them to expedite shipping because being without a puter is starting to get annoying. I am not a fan of borrowing machines or using my cell phone to get my computing done. I've been using my PS3 the past few days!!! -
Dell customer service seem pretty confused, last week they told me i can expect it to be a week delayed, from June 23rd to June 30th but apparently today, they said they have the batteries and i can expect mine to ship within 2 days (June 12th), and expect it to arrive next week! So they are trying to resolve the battery problems, but i think its still there and i doubt they would ship it without a battery
-
Yeah, they told people a week ago that the issue was resolved, but people are still experiencing massive delays, and even if you were to order a new 1530 today the difference between a 6 and 9 cell is 2.5 weeks.
-
I order my Vostro 1500 on 6/3 and it's still in the build stage. I actually called a customer service rep and they told me that 6-cell batteries were on back order as well as the laptop chassis itself. WTF?
-
I keep seeing stories about people getting systems early and they all have 6-cells, seriously Dell, WHAT THE HELL???????
I am getting sick of seeing posts of people ordering after I did and already having their 1530's with a 6 cell battery while I get emails from Dell that my system is being delayed. Grrrrrrr.........I have always used Dell's and always liked them, but this is really annoying me. It could feasibly take them over a month for the laptop to get to me, in the US, which is unacceptable. -
-
Yup, same here, I think my screen might be part of the issue, MAYBE the color thing, but its been 3 full weeks, still in build, and my ESD is the same as yours. This is inexcusable. If they have enough cases and other parts, they should have enough batteries.
-
wow i really hope this doesn't get dragged out that long since i am in the boxing stage. conceivably the way this works is that when your service tag leaves a specific station the status is updated to the next step in the process so if I am in boxing the service tag of my machine has been released from testing. Therefore the machine MUST be complete. It has been built and is sitting in a box somewhere. the only reason why they would push my ESD back a week AFTER its been tested and boxed would be for something that does not interfere with testing.... in other words the battery. this nonsense with people getting theirs early with the 6 cell really makes me wonder what is up with DELL..... how do they prioritize who gets the battery and when? perhaps by shipping info? if you order overnight you get the battery first? let those 3-5 day people wait it out?
-
I'd love to get my Vostro 1500 before the end of the month, sooner if possible. I think I'm going to call in again and ask about my order.
-
So I just called Dell and they said that my laptop was delayed due to the 6-cell battery shortage. I made it sound extremely important since I will be using this laptop with my company, so they are going to call within the next 48 hours about the situation. Maybe I can get them to speed the process up a little.
-
Six-Storm: What number did you call, I can;t figure out which number is the best to call and try to figure out my situation.
-
-
Ok well things shifted very quickly after my 2 calls yesterday. they were the first two calls i had made to dell regarding this machine and both times they insisted the machine could not ship without a battery but they would get it out as soon as possible. well by about 4pm the machine had "been released to the carrier" and by 6pm i had a tracking number! DHL said they aknowledged the shipment at 12:00 am on the 11th and now Dell shows my EDD as 6/13. all day today there have been no updates on DHL's site. So i am cautiously optimistic that my machine may actually arrive in the original EDD window!!!! As far as i am concerned dell has redeemed themselves in my book...... now to see how bad the bloatware problem has gotten.... my last purchase from Dell was in 2004 when i bought an inspiron 9100 and 1150 in the same order. Back then it wasn't bad at all....... I hear horror stories today!!!
-
Well for what its worth I noticed today that on the Dell website when configuring a 1530, the 6 cells batteries are only on a 5 day delay as opposed to the 12 day delay they had been on. Hopefully they'll get it squared away soon enough.
-
-
So, USA: 5 days delay for same thing (6cell) but have 30% off deal for 9cell upgrade and im hearing free upgrades too
CANADA: 12 Days of delay and no free upgrade, heck, no ****ing 30% off
lmao im going to ****ing cancel my order in 1-2 days if i dont see the .ca site change aswell\\ -
I had our ordering gal at work to call and get them on the ball with my Vostro. There goes two requests to expedite the order, status still has not changed.
-
Well my saga has come to a close. DHL's site now claims my laptop has been delivered. I'm at work now so i'll be sure to go tear that box into a million teeny tiny pieces promptly upon arriving home. Good luck with your battle against Dells JIT production scheduling.... FYI thats the real reason they suffer so many delays. Just In Time production scheduling reduces facility size and storage requirements and from an accounting standpoint less inventory means more $$$ . The problem arises when your forecasting is off and you don't have just the right ammount of parts flowing in to satisfy demand. Forecasting is good but by no means a truly accurate science. Dell tries to maintain a 2 day supply of parts if i recall correctly but any supplier issue or hiccup along the way can cause huge problems. I know all this sounds bad but when the whole system is working JIT is a marvel of efficiency with very fast reaction to changes in parts and technology with no need to exhaust inventory....
Ok that was a bit long winded but maybe it enightened a few. enjoy the weekend all! -
I don't know if Dell IS still having battery problems, but the battery is what they SAY is holding up my order for a Vostro 1500
Ordered 5/30; original expected ship date 6/13; this week's expected ship date 6/20; they haven't changed the 6/20 date yet, but they still tell me that they are still waiting for the batteries to arrive -- which tells me there is very little chance they can meet their so-called expected shipping date.
On the other hand, I have only the word of Dell's so-called Customer Care people for the battery problem -- and all my experience with Dell leads me to not believe a word anyone working for Dell says until I see it for myself.
-
My Vostro is still on hold due to the battery issue. I did complain a little bit so they did upgrade my shipping to next-day (I bought the free shipping, 5 days I think) so I got a little victory.
I even tried to get them to throw a 9-cell battery in there but they are out of every battery apparently. If my laptop doesn't ship on time, Dell will get hell. -
My second replacement is held up due to the battery shortage. Or so the rep who is handling it says.
Not to big of a deal to me. I can lug this one wherever and not give a **** about damanging and beating it up since its going back when my replacement arrives. -
yeah the battery shortage sucks that combined with the crazy deals they had for June and the fact I am sure a lot of students are getting Laptops as graduation gifts just means everyone gets screwed. I ordered my 1720 on 6/5 and they gave me an estimated ship date of 7/1 I hope that it ships early but I am not holding my breath. The only reason I haven 't canceled is because of the great deal i got.
-
yuh i was supposed to get my laptop already but apparently i am suffering possible delay bc of battery..i cant even cancel since its "in transit" to U.S..so i am guessing i will get it after it gets to the U.S..(they told me its shipped to U.S with a battery)
-
Lol...they should start shipping the laptops without the batteries, and then box the batteries up later so we can at least use it on A/C
. Actually no, that would suck...nevermind.
-
So I called Dell back telling them how I needed my laptop for work and how I wanted some compensation. They upgraded my shipping to next day shipping so my laptop is still supposed to ship next Friday, the 27th. I highly doubt that it will ship then but we will see. If they don't ship it by that day, I'm going to demand a CPU upgrade, for the laptop to ship that day or I'm cancelling my order. I don't need a laptop but it would be nice to have one at some point in my life.
-
-
I'm about to call Dell and get them to do something today. This is getting a little ridiculous that everybody who orders XPS and Vostro laptops are already getting their's shipped. Battery shortage? Yeah right. -
I did call Dell Friday and got a really rude customer service rep. I didn't hint towards cancelling my order but she wouldn't do anything for me. Guess I'll just wait and keep a close eye on it this week to see if the status changes. With reading a lot of the horror stories here, I'm starting to think that my order will be delayed another two weeks and that I'll have to call Dell on my ESD to come up with some compensation.

The rep I talked to doesn't want me calling about my order anymore lol.
I figured that if a shipment of batteries came in on the 20th, shouldn't my laptop be in testing or boxing by now? WTF? -
The reps seem to be annoyed with me calling them 20 times a day but F*** them. Until it ships, I will keep annoying them! -
Just got an email from my Dell rep and she says that my Vostro is almost out to ship. I called the automated status hotline and it now says "Boxing stage". It's about time!
Now that I have next day shipping, it should have it Monday for sure! I won't be at work Friday, I'm closing on my new house. -
Yo Six Storm. I Also have a Vostro 1500 coming my way So I will be interested to see when yours shows up. Mine was ordered on the 12th of june. Unfortunately It was ordered through the IT school I am attending so I cant even check the status of my order. The purchasing clerk at my school said to expect about 2 weeks. But after all that I have read I will be lucky to get it before my next set of classes begin on july 7th. I wouldnt of even bothered getting a Dell in the first place but its about a 1000 dollar laptop and the school pays for half of it and I pay the other half.
Still next time around I will just stick with toshiba laptops. Dell may have some better offers but it shouldnt take more than two weeks to build and ship any laptop. My mom ordered one of their desktops awhile back (forgot the model) and it took three weeks for it to show up!
I could drive around town buy all the parts and build a desktop PC in one day easy. Then a few hours to load software and its done..
Anyway Keep us posted on your vostro.
dude you are getting a dell! ..... someday. -
-
Funny that the motto on their support line "Yours is here" is literally true...for another 6 weeks.
-
contacted my rep at my school about my vostro. Sure enough it was ordered two weeks ago and has not shipped. unfortunately they could get me info on how far along in the build status it is. but the dell REP said the six cell battery was holding it up. almost every studen that got their laptop through the school is going through the same thing. other than the ones that signed up many months ago and had their laptops orderd.
Its going to be interesting to see how many ppl have their laptops when classes start on the 7th. the school is doing all it can to get Dell to move. after all this school is a big customer ordering about 700 laptops a year from dell/ -
Checked my order status today . . . it's now CANCELLED. I called the Dell rep I've been talking to and she says that there was an "error" and it's possible that my laptop could ship since it's in the shipping dock, ready to go. I've gotta call again tomorrow to get full confirmation of whether or not my laptop has shipped or if it's been fully cancelled.
Thanks Dell, you suck balls.
Still having battery problems?
