Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I know nothing about the comparison of Intel and Amd. Which would be the best choice of these two Inspiron 1720/21 notebooks??? I am using it for home use.... pictures, some video editing, web, music, kid games.... I have about $1,600 to spend.

The CPU's are a tie but the video card with the Intel makes me like it better. Also Santa Rosa will be better on the battery.

1720 is better in all aspects. Despite the 300 MHz lead, AMD X2 is still slower in most cases compared to the Core 2 Duo. However, this different is only noticeable for high CPU intensive work (3D rendering, running scientific simulations etc..), therefore you wont notice much of a difference there. But the GPU of 1720 is loads better (around 6 times faster) than the integrated one in 1721. You’ll also get better battery life and less heat with 1720. Therefore unless the price difference is huge, there is no point in getting a 1721.
