With the new Duo Core Acer and Sony's going on sale it's hard holding out for DELL to update the rest of their product line. Outside of the E1705/i9400 there are no other options. More specifically I'm looking for an update on the XPS line. I don't like how DELL talks about the M140 and M170 as being "new" on their website. Makes me think they don't have any immediate plans for upgrading them to Duo Core.

Wouldn't it be benificial to their sales if they at least released the product life cycle for their notebooks?

Yes and no, the dual core would be great for multitasking but the XPS is made for gaming (single core still beats in this subject.) I think a change will happen when newer games take the ability of dual core processors because Dell likes to be on top of things.

I'm not a big gamer, I guess I wouldn't mind seeing some updates to their Latitude and Precision lines. With all the talk about Core Duo coming in January I guess I just expected more than one notebook.

Has someone already run tests with equal equipment to verify Pentium M is better at gaming than Duo Core? I know a nVidia 7800 and an ATi x1600 are slower GPUs then a 7800GTX. I wouldn't mind seeing those results.

I actually like to keep programs running in the background like anti-spyware and anti-virus. I think the Duo Core would fit my habits better all around including gaming.

Couldn't agree with you more about Dell offering some new models with duo core.

I've pretty much decided that unless Dell announces something soon, I'm going to buy an ACER 8200 as soon as they are available online.

There was a great deal of talk before CES that Dell was coming out with some refreshes of the Lattitude models to take advantage of the duo core, but this is bordering on rediculous... unless they looked at ACER's 8200 and decided to go back to the drawing board. It's really top notch.

That Acer does look nice. I haven't dealt with Acer in about 8 years or so when I use to work on them. I thought the quality was low but I never touched their laptops. I don't know how different it is these days.

I went by Compusa at lunch today to look at their ACER models, and although they did not have any duo core yet, the models they did have looked very well built.

I've noticed all the Acer models, while a nice bang:buck ratio, have dim displays. The display WILL matter to you, trust me. Made me send back my i9300. I love the display in this XPS140.

My local CompUSA has a couple of new Core Duo Acers. I'll go check them out tonight. Maybe at lunch time if I have time.

CompUSA had an Aspire and TravelMate (not the 8200) Core Duo on display. I never understood what people meant by "keyboard flex" in the past but now I do. It really gives it a cheap feel. I don't think I would buy the 8200 without seeing it first.
