Still within the 21 day return policy, is inspiron 6000 a worthy buy right now?

a few days after i got my dell inspiron 6000 im considering returning it.

I dont really ahve ny problems with this laptop its just that im curios as to what impact the new dual core processor notebooks will have.

I want your opinion on this issue, do you think that as soon as peopel get thier hands on dual core notebooks the prices of current intel centrino single core notebooks would dramatically go down.

I bought this i6000 with 1.7 ghz centrino for around 1200. For around 1500 there is a gateway notebook with intel dual core at 1.86 ghz.
I really cant pay that extra 300 because even 1200 was pushing it but im wondering that in months woulld the price of these single core notebooks go down? was it a wrong time for me to buy a i6000? should i have waited around 2 months maybe to get a dual core notebook for the same price or even 5 months. This notebook is a big investment for me, i no that technology gets old very quickly, im jus worred if this notebook would last me around 2 years. btw im still within my 21 day return policy. I woudl appreciate your commetns and replies

Well, it would also depend on what you are using it for. If you won't benefit from using the new technology then why go through the hassle of returning the I6000.

I agree with USAF - if you're not a heavy multitasker, you won't really notice a difference in speed. In addition, there's always something new comming around the corner - if you're always wanting to have only the latest stuff and greatest, you'll be waiting forever to get a new notebook.

Also there is the fact as to whether the 6000 will be updated anytime soon. As of right now, I haven't heard any dates or anything about the lower/middle class of Inspirons being updated. It could be that dell only plans to upgrade the higher end Inspirons and latitudes.

I'm sure that eventually they will update it, but we just don't know when.

Personally, unless you absolutely love the 6000, I don't know if it would be worth over 1500 with the new technology. There are several good notebooks that are in that size range and have a better built to it. I'm not saying that the 6000 or the Inspiron line has a horrible built, but compared to other notebooks in that range, it could be a bit more durable.

thanks for your replies, the thing is that im quiet satisfied with my i6000, i would only be willing to return it if im sure that the current prices of single core notebooks such as i6000 would dramatically go down in a short period of time due to the dual core introduction. I dont have to buy i6000 later on if i do return it, ill be fine with any notebook in the $ 1200 price range. I just only wanted to know if it would be a wise move not to purchase a notebook right now and maybe wait a couple of months if the prices do dramatically go down. thanks

i guess it depends on your needs right now. if you need a notebook now and are happy with your rig and the price you paid, then there's no reason to return it. if you don't need one right now and want to see what's down the line, then wait.

note, however, that the prices aren't going to drop significantly. the specific line/config will most likely be dropped rather than discounted.

by the time you get your refund (sans restock fees if any) and find another unit to purchase...

something else better and faster and cheaper will come along.

You'll never win that race as a pc consumer. I gave up on that 10 years ago. It's obsolete before you get the box out of your trunk after getting it home from the store.
