Has anyone experienced the display dimming key function not operating after the computer comes out of Sleep shutdown?

Recently, I have started experiencing the inability of using the Fn up and down arrows or the Control Panel to dim or increase the brightness on the display.

When I reboot or restart, the functionality is restored and works properly.

    Any ideas?

hehe, same here. BIOS update should do the trick. Dell just updated their m1530 BIOS, labeled it "Urgent" and it's on support.dell.com right now. The new update fixes a wide array of problems, such as the erratic touchpad (damn Alps) and the general studdering issue with the 8600gt card. However, if you still experience problems after flashing your BIOS, I STRONGLY recommend for you to update to Vista SP1 via the Windows update, for that has also (according to some users) fixed their issue with laptops not functioning after sleep...

(Don't worry, the problem is more software based than hardware, so don't call Dell right away for an replacement on faulty component...)

I have a Vostro. Thanks for the thought, though.

Maybe they will serve up a new Bios for the Vostro.

I thought that it might be related to the new Quickset update that I just downloaded several days ago.
