I have this problem as well. But, I don't know what to tell you about whether it is dangerous or how to fix it. Sorry :(

There is a thread on here about it and a solution on fixing it. I have not attempted the fix though - a little complex for me at the time being. Here is a link to the thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=197809

    Good luck!

It's not "giving off too much power". What does that mean anyway?

Please don't post unless you have a clue about what you're talking about.

Does the adapter have a ground? If not, then that's likely the problem.

The adapter is giving off to much interference. That or electricity in your house or area is generally known as 'dirty' power.

There are things similar to a surge protector you plug in that filter the power.

There might also be a short circuit somewhere near the battery

The way I solved this problem is simple I just got an old 3 prong extension cord and cut the ground prong off. then I plugged it in and plugged my laptop into the extension cord. No more noise. The down side is you must make sure the amplifier or stereo or headphones or whatever your connecting your computer to is turned off when plugging into the headphone jack or you will get a feedback that could cause damage.
