I´ve just had a repairman at my home to change the motherboard on my M1530 to "fix" the static coming from the 3.5mm audio ports. I got a refurbished board which the repairman installed with no difference to the static coming through the my earplugs.
After he left One of the plastic components to the left of the touch sensitive buttons was loose, my screen now has some kind of vague resistance when closing which gives a small sound and the slot containing my remote is now bent so that I have to "jiggle" the remote to get it in there.
Great service....

call dell and ask for compensation
-
Second that...
Poor workmanship... get on that phone.. -
And never sign anything for any work order -- Dell or anyone else -- before you've had a chance to thoroughly check over the repair.
-
Was never asked to sign anything. I've texted the fella who did the repair so he will hopefully be back something this week.

Have you tried a variety of headphones?
You could also try the Dell "earplug" headphones with some other audio device that is known to produce good sound out of the headphone jack.
I will do this with my own Dell "earplug" headphones tonight to see if I can verify that it is the headphones producing static and not my laptop jack. -
damm that sucks they fix one thing and mess up another. call dell
-
I have tried 3 different sets of earplugs and there is static on every one of them.
Anyone else who has opened the front of their computer? The dell repairman suspected that the plastic component might always be loose after one opens the computer up the first time. He said that it was like that on the M1330. If so, that sux -
Call dell back and complain. The repairmen that dell sends out is a local 3rd party . These 3rd parties hire people who have taken the a+ exams that are just looking for money.
You have to watch them like a hawk. They have a tendancy to rush because of how these people get paid. -
Stressed and careless repairmen sabotages more than they help?
