My T7300 2.0GHz laptop CPU is stuck on a x8.0 multiplier and a 777MHz FSB. It *should* be able to go as high as x10.0 multiplier and 2.0GHz FSB. No matter what I try, even if the CPU is only 38.0C, the CPU speed never changes. My CPU should idle at a x6.0 multiplier, not x8.0.
Also, the voltage is .850. Both CPU-Z and RMclock are giving me the same readings.
I've gotten lucky (sort of) about 3 times now. What I mean is that I've booted up 3 times to where the processor acts how it should...idling at x6.0 and running max at x10.0 automatically. But I restart and it goes back to beings its old crappy self. It seems to be entirely random to me.
But almost every time it just sits at x8.0 and will never change. By right clicking my computer > properties >general tab, I can see that my fsb speed is always 777mhz.
I'm trying to figure out why this is happening. Help would be...well, nice to have.![]()

mate, try doing what I have already told you to do!
when it boots up and is "being all crappy" run one of the CPU intensive programs I've listed in my post here.
Does it start to run any quicker? -
Wich model do you have?
-
h3rman, I've run that SETI@home program. The CPU doesn't run any faster while running or after running that program, despite the fact that it was definitely using 100% of my processing power.
majortom, I've got a dell inspiron 1520. -
Best way to test that your CPU isn't "stuck" is the following...
Run this tool that is designed for developers like myself (but is super simple to use)...
http://weblogs.asp.net/kennykerr/ar...for-your-developer-toolbox_2E002E002E00_.aspx
Run that utility while running CPU-Z ( www.cpuid.com) so that you can see the realtime clock of your CPU. That should show you the throttling in action perfectly. -
Sorry to revive this thread but it's better than making an old one and besides I think the OP still hasn't found the solution [or at least it wasn't posted here]
I'm also having the same problem [laptop specs below]. Not sure when it started but I just noticed that programs were loading more slowly and stuff so I loaded CPU-Z and ran Super Pi. Wow. My normally 57 second-2M calculation took more than 2 and a half minutes [2:36 to be exact -- not far from my P4's 2:53]. And yes, clock speed is stuck at 1.5 GHz. [Doesn't even go down to 1.1 GHz, which is usually the case when my laptop's on idle -- just thought it's worth mentioning as it might help]
WTF? Oh, and I checked my Power settings and it's on Maximum Performance. My lappy's also plugged/on AC power.
Any suggestions? This is really freaking me out
BTW, if it helps, my CPU temps are "normal" [I'm guessing 22~27C is pretty normal?] -
*bump*
Sorry
Here's a screenshot. I think it's pretty self-explanatory...
What usually takes 57 seconds to complete isn't even halfway finished after a minute... *sigh*
And please no "super pi is single threaded". I know that, but I know it's still supposed to push CPU to its normal/max clock rate. [Besides, wPrime results are more horrible -- couldn't even wait for it.]
Help please... Thanks!
Stuck CPU throttle...
