Hi all, not a very cheerful first post :p

Ordered a M1710 from Dell UK on the 12th June but after 2 days I still seem to be in Pre-production.

I've been looking about and it seems that most people instantly pass this stage. My Estimated delivery date is the 20th June. (Hah)

Has anyone experienced this and have any suggestions on what I could do? I'm a patient person but to me having 2 days go by with no work being done is silly...

I would have thought that a company like Dell would be getting stock on an almost daily basis...

    Thanks.

Usually you'll be stuck in pre-production whenever dell is on shortage. The length of time depends the shortage of parts. You might try contacting Dell to see exactly what parts are on back order. They should be able to tell you what part they are waiting on. You might be able to substitute another part for it - i.e. if they have a shortage of a certain display, you might be able to choose another display.

Either way, the product will get to your door so I wouldn't worry about it. Usually takes 1-2 weeks to get a customized notebook delivered.

Thanks for the responses. You guys must be good luck, because:

Looks like its' apprarently been in production since the 12th...whatever, I'm just glad the status is changing :p

Can't wait to try out Oblivion on this thing...making it run at non-native resolution shouldn't make it too blurry right? On a FX5200 right now so jumping to the 7900GS will be incredible! :D

Haha it's really flying along now, already in Packing!

1 Resource CD - contains Diagnostics and Drivers 340-13483
I see I'm getting a CD, guess it's an XPS thing?

1 Microsoft Vista Capable Logo Label 340-13529
    A bit early isn't it?

I'll be sure to take some pictures whenever it comes, especially comparing Oblivion in native vs. non-native.

Your going to get 5 CD's, and a Vista sticker that says "Windows Vista Capable"

You'll only get 5 cds if you order the XP disc. If you didn't order the XP disc, then you'll only get a couple of discs. For more information on formatting, please check out the guide (link in sig).

Hmm...this is probably a Dell UK thing, with the XPS there isn't even an option to buy CD's but there is if you try to buy an Inspiron. I believe I'll get the 5 CD's though.

And I think I'll see how the PC runs with just an uninstallation of bloatware before reformatting, have no problems doing with with the desktop but with the laptop it seems a lot more drawn out (Gaining the MediaCenter partition back etc.)

Thanks everyone for the input, looks like it'll be arriving on the 20th after all, now I play the waiting game! :(
