How do I go about applying a student discount to any purchase at Dell and is it combinable with other current offers like the $500 off the XPS Gen 2?

I just got a great student discount on the i6000 earlier this week. (saved approx. $1100) You can either call Dell and order over the phone, or you can go to the higher education store (from the main page-dell.com), then choose faculty, students & staff purchases. You can enter the store by bypassing the member id with the link shown, and then at checkout you need to give a student id number. The education store has its own discounts, which cannot be combined with any codes from dell home or business.

Oh wow, I actually configured an XPS that dropped an additional $200 on top of the $500 they already slash off. This is a steal. I thought I'd never say this, but I think this is the ticket for me. I never expected any company to stick a Pentium M into their flagship gaming desktop, and Dell did just that.

I do notice that I don't get free shipping anymore or... is there a way I can get that?

Dell does allow employer, education, student, government discount to be combined with their current offers. If you are doing it through the internet make sure you go to the site provided by your university/employer. For me, i work for Target and i went to the Dell site that was for companies. I was able to get the great president day deal along with my preferred company discount. If your not sure, call them, and tell the sales rep you are trying to get an eduction discount, they will either help you or transfer you too one of those sales people.
