Ok so here i am again askign questions, lol :D

anyways, is this student discount only available for certain models or can it be applied to all ( and how to you apply for it(i am a student), i looked a bit on dell canada and im not findign anything, i might just be looking at the wrong spot)

also i just read a review about someone using his M1210 with vista and liking it blah blah sugar and lollypops but he didnt test gaming, i've been wanting to know how the M1210(with vista) runs games (like HL2, ROL, anything else fairly new).

    thanks a bunch,
    p.h.

you should call them on the phone and choose EPP (Employee Purchase Program). Ordering online won't let you barter with them and get warranty discounts.

I've played Counter Strike Source, and on all max settings with Anti Aliasing off, I get a steady 65-70 frames per second. More than playable if you ask me.

    It was a good experience.

good luck and I'm sure you're going to be happy with your new purchase.

btw, if you're interested in warranty, tell them to give you the $150 off for purchasing a 4 year warranty. And I'd recommend adding complete care onto that as well since it's a very portable unit.

    best of luck

to give you a rough estimate as to whether you're getting a good deal or not...

My XPS listed on my signature with the same specs, was at $1750 with 4 year complete care warranty.

It didn't come with 2G's of RAM however, only 1.

    This is USD currency.

M1210 isn't really built with gaming in mind. You'd want at least a 7600 IMO and M1210 can only be equipped with 7400.

Since Santa Rosa is bringing better integrated graphics, that might be the only option as far as small 12 inch laptops being able to game. Most dedicated cards built for gaming just don't fit in such a small space.

    Maybe I'm wrong though.

    say what i said.

I heard you offered a $150 discount when you purchase a 4 year warranty upgrade. I would like that please. and they should. If not, hang up and try again with another representative.

secondly, before you make the deal. say this

"This set up is really tempting....

you know what would really seal this deal? If you included Free Next Business Day shipping. Other wise I think I'm going to have to pass"

then he's going to say, "hold on, i'll talk to my supervisor about this"

then he'll most likely say, "ok it's a deal".

you might want to hold off saying that you're going to pass unless he comes back and says sorry we can't do free NBD shipping.

then that's when you should say you'll pass.

that will get him to bite.

    good luck

has anyone had much success knocking down the price below the website price? if so, how much were you usually able to save by negotiating?

You will be able to knock the site price down by using EPP, if you don't you can't really get it for cheaper. Sirius is talking about certain offers they sometimes promote, it's not as if you can haggle with them to drop the price.

    W00t post #1,000 :)

I thought I heard some people in other threads say they got a better deal on the price by calling a dell representative.

The $400 off coupon is actually a better deal than the EPP discount on the configuration I'm looking at.

Once again, we cannot condone going through EPP if you do not qualify. But no they do not check.

Please don't ask about that again otherwise this thread will be deleted by a moderator.

And yes, talk to a representative. That IS the best way to get a deal on an XPS system because, as of current, there are no coupons for the XPS line. And they rarely ever come.

wow... you are the man! unfortunately, i tried to play this trick on my in-production d820 today, but it was rejected. i told the guy that i would be out of town in next week (a white lie :D ) and asked if they could offer me a free NBD shipping, his answer is no unless i am willing to pay more..... what should i say? will cancel it? or maybe i should say i'll be out of US for a year or something?

lol, that's the problem. You asked. They don't respond well to asking because they believe they can get you to pay more for shipping.

IDK, I just ordered another one for my friend, and it worked as well. He told them exactly what I told them.

    Try again again again again.

Did you place the order already?

I am looking at the E1505, i can use either EPP for studunts or just the discounts, looks like the warranty is better not using EPP, also being i am in Florida, we cannot get the breakage/lojack coverage..that is a bummer! Can i negotiate setting up purchase online then calling in, or do entire purchase over the phone?? Can it be done with the discounted purchase or only the EPP student purchases?? Thanks in advance!

That "trick" is awesome, if i ever order anything again, I'd use this phone call stuff. I think Sirius should make a book about " How to deal with Dell's rep".

Agreed, if I buy another Dell, I'm going back to the phone method. Got $300 off my Inspiron 6400 AFTER coupons just by bargaining.

Wow, I bought mine online when they had free upgrades. Next time, I'm trying the phone method. Thanks, Sirius!

Now, about gaming, I know that Gamespot has a Vista compatibility guide. It's very useful!

Also, I've been playing Guild Wars on my M1210, and it's beautiful! I get a flicker or audio skip once every couple of hours, but it's probably because it's an online game and I'm playing using Wifi. And, that's where this machine rocks! I can play a MMO using Wifi with hardly any issue AND while my other computer is downloading stuff! :)

I'm going to be installing Doom 3 and Battle for Middle Earth 2 on my M1210 soon. I'll update on performance when I do.

P.S. - I installed CCleaner and it opened up 600 MB of space on my HDD! :D
