Hi All, i am in the market for a new laptop for a while and have been doing my reaserach for a while now.
Iv looked at sony viao , HP and Dell studio.

From what iv seen is that studio , which Looks beautiful and is very customizable , has a very high failure or fault rate !!

Most of the people who have received their studio are happy with it but all seem to have problem with some area , HDMI / WIRELESS / SOUND / DVD DRIVE , etc
The workmanship on them does not look very detailed and proper. All dells are made as per order but who is doing the assembly ?
engineers or hourly paid assembly workers who dont care if they do not screw a bolt or fuse couple wires together while puttin the laptop in one piece.

I want your opinion as if to is it a smart choice to go for a studio despite all these problems ??

Good question, I was kind of interested in the Studio for my wife... definitely not AS interested though if it has a high failure rate....

Keep in mind that your determination that the Studio line has lots of problems is probably based off the quantity of posts logged here at Notebookreview.COM. No one other than Dell knows the true failure rates and I'm sure that they're not going to give those numbers out freely. It could be that the Studio owning group here is just very vocal/active. The Studio could be there most reliable line. We don't really know the percentage of them that have issues versus any other Dell line or any other manufacturer's notebooks. I guess my point is to keep in mind that your determination that the Studio has a very high failure rate isn't based on a full set of facts, but the facts as you know them. If you have no confidence in the Studio, by all means, get something else. Emperically, I don't think anyone other than a high up at Dell can answer your question.

Its the XPS all over again lol. Remember that just because people post here about their problems doesn't mean all owners have the same trouble. You will hear about pretty much every single fault because people will want to post that here, people don't post to just say everything is running smoothly (usually)

Dell make some of the most reliable laptops I have ever used and if there are any problems with them their customer service is pretty top notch at replacing or repairing faulty parts - But you probably won't have any problems. Granted some of their staff don't have thetechnical knowledge they should but if you know how to speak with them you can get any problem sorted really quickly.

I have a studio 17 and have had no issues. Build design is good, screen is great '1920x1200' and Its by far the best laptop I have purchased to date. I also own a Macbook Pro 15" Current revision and still prefer my Dell. :)

I agree that the workmanship could be better, In my studio the paint job was botched. In the area near to the right of touchpad, the paint had all kinds of wierd circles as if someone had scribbled on it, Apart from that there are no problems in it till now.

Part of the design  Are you sure??? It sure doesnt look like one

Maybe its my lack of taste, but i fail to see anything artistic in that design, plus its just on one side of the laptop, which led me to suspect that it could be a botched paint job.

Thanks basskidd, that was the only issue I faced till now with the Studio 15 :D

Edited: Yup it is a part of the design after all. I checked out a large res pic of the studio and that wierd scribbling was on there too
