I was settled on the e6400, but am now considering the Studio13. Originally I wanted a 13 or 14" screen, but had gone with 14 mainly because I didn't like the old xps13.

The HDMI feature is certainly making me think about the Studio 13.

However, the cost for the Studio 13 with the LED screen makes it quite a bit more expensive than the e6400 (and I was planning to get one from the outlet... and I doubt there will be many Studio13s there for a while.)

    Any views?

The Studio XPS 13 and 16 were both "lust at first sight" for me. My main concern with buying one now or in the near future is that it's a new product. Many new models (whether laptops or cars or...) have inherent bugs and issues yet to be ironed out. The leather accent on the cover concerns me a bit, too. It looks great new, but what about after a year or two of being subjected to the heat generated by the system? I could be totally wrong, but I'm picturing the woodgrain applique peeling off an old station wagon! Not pretty!!! :p

Other than initial quality control issues and bugs, keep in mind that the Studio XPS is still a consumer-oriented notebook. It simply isn't designed to be as durable as the Latitude E6400.

You also have the added benefit of buying the E6400 from the Dell Outlet. If you decide to buy in the near future, they're still offering 20% off any Latitude from the Outlet- http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/special_deals?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfb&~ck=anavml&dgc=IM&cid=35180&lid=1005420

I just bought my E6400 a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. It looks great, performs flawlessly, and I got it for just under $700 (with the P9500 processor, nVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, Backlit Keyboard and XP Pro with Vista Business upgrade rights)...you can't go wrong with a deal like that! FYI- if you didn't already know, the E6400 from the Outlet gets the same 3-year Warranty as a new one! :D

You might also consider the Latitude E4300 from the Outlet. It's the 13.3" sibling of the E6400, but it doesn't offer the option of dedicated graphics.

I would rather see a *first* hand review on the Studio 1340..first before making any decisions.

However, that E6400 is a sweet notebook, and some great deals at Dell's Outlet right now. :D

    Cin ;) :)

    isn't the 6400 heavier than comparable 13"?

Thanks guys. I think on balance the e6400 is the better choice. Annoyingly outlet has gone form have 100s of the things to zero (in the UK)... just need to keep my finger on the trigger :)

Additionally the e6400 comes with a better standard warranty length and warranty department should ever need it.
