    Hi Everyone,

I have been trying to fix the fan control issue with my 1458 and so far the closest I got was following Stezzus guide here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-inspiron-dell-studio/306784-how-control-your-fan-x64-vista.html

This guide is for Vista 64bit, and for a different model.

My computer is a studio 1458 with Win7 64bit. The goal is to set up I8kfan to change fan settings.

The problem I have is that after I setup "Ready Driver Plus" (from Stezzus post), I cannot get I8kfan to install properly. I get an error mentioning that the drivers are not signed by Windows. Running the program anyway results in the laptop restarting.

Has anyone gotten any further? Have any advice? Maybe another method to control the fan speed?

    Thanks!

i8kfangui doesn't work on Dells with chipsets newer than the 965. There is a hack to install it on 64bit Vista and 7 (see the i8kfangui forum, I think), but even then it won't control the fan.

Do you know what software I can use to reduce the amount of times the fan comes on, or how many RPM it spins at?

I'd say undervolt, but I don't think you can UV i3/5/7 machines. You could try to see if you've dust in your heatsink and vents or try using a cooling pad, but it may or may not help... there's (quite sadly, I might add) no viable fan control software for current Dells; if you want fan control, buy a ThinkPad :(
