Purchased 2 Studio 14Z Laptops both with 320GB Hard drive. On one of them I am about to install Propellerhead Reasons Music Studio and Fruity Loops Producer Edition in order to work on my music. (creating music) I want to upgrade the hard drive to a 500GB hard drive. I have narrowed it down to the Seagate Momentus line. I found 2 500GB Hard drives one has a 8MB Cache the other has a 16MB Cache. The 8MB Cache is selling for $109.99 and the one with the 16MB Cache is selling for $139.99. Which one should I get... Will the 16MB cache be a better fit? Is it worth the extra cash (money) for the 16MB. Please help and explain options if there are any other options out there. Thank you so much.

I think the bigger cache will definitely increase performance for you - based on how memory-intensive music work must be.

I thought about that but what about battery life and hard drive failure rate. are the segate drives the quietest or should I be looking at the Western Digital

A larger cache will likely slightly enhance battery life, because the hard disk will have to spin up less, but the difference is mostly negligible. I don't think brands make too much of a difference - or at least none that I've been able to notice.
