I thought this would not be such a big deal when I bought it, but I was wrong. i8kfangui does not work, I turn power to 'power saver", but even then fans go full speed. It does occasionally slow down or off, but seems completely random. Right now I see core temps at 35 and 37, with fans at full speed.

Has anyone figured any way to control the fan on this model?

    Thank you.

Check the CPU usage, on idle should be between 0 and 2%.

It is hovering around 1% indeed.

One thing I noticed, if I have the laptop in a vertical position, the fans run faster at the same temperatures. If I lay it down on a table, the fans slow down. Has anyone else noticed this? Go figure...

Gravity and resistence. Why would you be holding it vertically anyway??

Try flashing to an updated BIOS that will freak out the system and start fresh.

    Worked for me.

I noticed the fan noise @ vertical when I used the laptop lying in bed once...

@ ice cold, when you say "freak out", you mean the BIOS update will crash my system and I will have to reinstall the OS?
