The S1440/Studio 14z is constantly running hot for me. It is running the fan all the time and very hot air blowing. I can also hear the hard drive making some noise some times ...Is this sign of trouble. I just i have 1 browser and IM client running and no video or audio streaming going one. The fan is constantly running & blowing hot air...

Anyone facing the same issues..Should i try getting an exchange from BBY ...I would appreciate any tweaks which may be needed to make it work cooler. It is hot to the extent of uncomfortable on lap.

SuperFetch will, after probably a week or two, quiet down. That isn't causing the laptop to run hot.

What is causing the laptop to run hot? Not sure. Check the CPU utilization, because Dell loads so many bloatware programs on those machines that it could definitely keep the CPU running full tilt. Also check the power profiles, you might have it in high performance.

But nothing should be forcing to fan to run all the time, not unless you are running programs that demand a lot of CPU power.

If you can't solve it, return it. No use having to deal with a laptop that gives you trouble out of the box.

Just got off the chat session with technical support they want to replace the motherboard, heat sink and thermal pad. He reached the conclusion without much discussion or explanation. Seems to be a common problem with the model. I am not sure now BBY has this in stock or not will go to BBY to-morrow for exchange or return.
