I found this in one of the reviews of the 14z:
Is there a way to change this back to standard laptop functionality? I use the function keys quite a bit when I am working and very rarely need to adjust volume or pause music.
This is most likely a deal breaker for me. If I can't get standard F-key operation on the Studio, then I will have to look elsewhere.

    Thanks,
    Pete

On my Inspiron, you can change it in the BIOS and I have made that change mainly because of F5. I imagine you can do the same on the 14z.

Yes, there is a BIOS setting on all Dell laptops equipped with dual-mode media/F-series keys that allows you to decide whether they should function primarily as media keys or as F-keys. The default setting is media keys, but it takes all of ten seconds to change and save.

Perfect. Thanks for the quick answers.
Now I will just wait until the end of the month to see if anything new is unveiled for the Win7 release party, and then turn my order into the office manager.

Hmm, how do you do that? I don't see that on my Studio 15.
