I don't know why the reviews took so long...

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
An NBR review would be better

They do reviews as soon as Dell decides it's convenient to send a review unit.

abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
I read this yesterday. They seem to really like it.
-
yeah - they seem to be making excuses for the lack of optical drive.
-
They don't need to make excuses for anything. It's not like they're tricking customers into thinking it has one, and then surprising them when they open the box. The fact is, many people these days don't get much use out of an optical drive, and it adds weight and bulk. Removing it does not affect a large portion of customers, and allows for a thinner, lighter machine.
-
haha, excuse my lack of clarity. I've bought one, i know i'll be okay without a drive. What I was trying to say was that they were trying to convince people as to why not having a drive is not that big of a deal, which is fine by me.
-
It's just strange how the Studio 14 doesn't have one but the Inspiron 14 does. Agree with Mastershroom; they aren't hiding anything, and for most people optical drives are not used massively whilst you are away from home.
-
I have a 14z on order, and I did end up coughing up $50 for an optical drive. I know I won't really need one for any reason at all (other than maybe installing an OS because I dont have a big flash drive), but it's good to have the peace of mind that you do have one if you need it. I'm probably gonna wanna watch a movie on it sooner or later.
-
I think the biggest benefit besides the weight savings from removing the optical drive is the extra room that allows the 8-cell battery to fit flush.
-
Also extended battery life due to not having to power an optical drive. Not that I think they chomp their way through batteries that much to be honest, but there will be some sort of saving there.
Studio 14z review - at long last
