Will I regret having not chosen the high res display(1440x900 or 1920x1200) over the 1280x800 default display? Is it a massive difference? I have been trying to find picture differences with no luck. I can not find good quality pictures of the default screen.

Do you think Dell would switch my 9-cell battery option with a high def screen? - the 9-cell battery costs more to add on than the highest res screen for the Studio 15. I did have the 9-cell default before the Studio changes took effect.

The main benefit of the 1440x900 display is that you can get the LED backlit option. This bumps the brightness up to 300 nits, I believe (a standard laptop screen is around 200 nits), and has better blacks and contrast. If you aren't using a really big desktop monitor, the change to a smaller screen may not be as big a deal. The only other trick is that the LED backlit version will get slightly better battery life (I haven't seen specific trials for the Dell Studio, but in general the LED backlight uses less power).

Personally, the LED backlit option is worth the upgrade cost, but not everyone has the same use for their laptop, or it might bump it above your affordable price range. It will mainly be a benefit in movies and games, much less for browsing and office work.

So I'd say meh. I'd have gone with the LED backlit option, but it's a case by case call, in my opinion. I have a friend who's very happy with his 1280x800 16" laptop.

It's a massive difference, but let me ask you a question first: Do you plan on watching HD content on your laptop? Either from a blu-ray disk, digital distribution or a ATSC tuner?

I mean, 1280x800 is what I'm using right now, but I'm using a low end acer. I plan on trading up to a very nice 15" laptop with 1920 by 1200 screen in about a month.

If you do get a high end screen, make sure you scale your DPI settings, otherwise all the text will be tiny.

Thanks for your input. I do tend to watch MANNYYY movies on my computer.

Did you see my 2nd question before I edited it? The high def option is +116 and the 9 cell battery option is +157. Do you think it is worth it calling Dell about it tomorrow (would they definitely say no about making a switch) and do you think it would add time onto my laptop production(the 9 cell adds 8 days onto production now)?

If you call dells Modification dept. they will make you cancel. I just went through this on my xps m1530. There was a great deal with the led screen so i canceled and by the time dell gave me my money back the deal was over and i missed out on the led screen and got my xps pushed back. Be carefull man.

I will not cancel and remake my order. I will probably be making a call tomorrow to inquire about my question, and if they say no, I can really care less at this point. I am looking forward to receiving my laptop too much.
