I'm getting a lappie for college, and I know the studio 15 is getting a lot of hate, but it fits me. I don't game so I don't need the xps, and I'm still looking for a mainstream budget laptop.
First of all, since I don't game at all, the integrated graphics would work for me, but the one with a deal on it has the HD3450. I was wondering how much that would drain the battery over the integrated?
I definitely want the LED screen and 3 gigs of RAM, the T9300 is just a plus cause it comes with the deal.
So for $1463 I would get:
$25 paint job
Intel® Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache)
Hi Resolution/Bright, glossy widescreen 15.4 WLED display (1440x900)
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2
250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Wireless-N Card
Internal bluetooth
9-Cell battery
How's that seem to you?

Looks good to me, go for it. I don't think the HD3450 would drain the battery more than the integrated graphics.
-
It will drain more than the integrated graphics obviously. thats a given, but it really wont be THAT big of a deal considering it consumes less than 8400GS or a 8600GT. You will get at at least 2 hours time, at least thats the min I get with the XPS M1530. Don't worry about it.
-
Does it seem like a good deal?
-
no, too much money! why do you need such a loaded laptop if you dont game?
-
personally, I think that's pretty good.
Good specs and a decent price. -
It's not that loaded. I don't need quite as powerful proc. but it comes in the deal automatically and I can't downgrade. I need the 3 Gigs cause I'm a bastard to my computer and constantly clutter it with so many processes. I also mentioned I'd rather have integrated graphics, but it comes with the deal. Everything else is just luxury.
-
you can save yourself a bunch of money getting a base unit and upgrading to the LED screen and 3 gigs of ram!
-
no the deal is perfect. the proceesor will keep u runnin for a while into the future and the gpu will be fine as long as u don't upgrade to the next windows.
-
Will the 3650 GPU in the Studio 17 be good enough for Windows 7?
-
If the Studio 15 works for you ~ and that's what *you* want, then you should get it it
Look's nice!! BTW..and what color are you looking at???
I, personally am really *groovin* on that Tangerine Orange color
But, I really like my 1530 very much!
Have you made a decision yet?
-
Woah hold back! Windows 7 will be here around 2010, thats quite a long time but i know that some people (like yourself) may want their laptop to last this long.
In terms of it being good enough, the Windows team has said that they are not making any huge driver/hardware changes like XP to Vista did. So theoretically it should work as long as the drivers are available. -
Exactly the question I was going to ask. My Vostro 1500 with a T5270 1.4ghz is more than enough power for the basics.
-
no, not really
-
You are contradicting yourself here... Why the hell are you going to pay almost $1500 for a laptop when all you really need is extra ram? It just does not make sense! And FYI, the processor you select will have little to no effect on this laptop's longevity! Software has not even come close to taxing processor speed for quite a while now and likely wont in the future, its the video card that hold the key to the future!
