Hi, Can anyone help me with setting up the sound on my Dell Studio 15 laptop?

I would like to pass the audio through the standard audio out jack even when I'm passing the video through the HDMI port. At the moment, as soon as I plug the HDMI cable into the laptop the audio switches from the jack to the HDMI.

Anyway to stop this from happening? (running on Vista Premium)

    Cheers :)

No-one knows the answer to this?

There must be a fairly simple solution to this.... maybe? haha

Just need the sound to go out of the headphone jack when watching video which is being passed through the HDMI. At the moment as soon as I connect the HDMI cable the audio automatically switches from headphone jack to HDMI and I cant seem to find out how to switch it back.

    Cheers :)

Right click the speaker icon near the clock and go to playback devices. Select default as headphone jack (or the one that isn't HDMI).

I have tried this but as soon as I plug in the HDMI cable it automatically switches the audio to HDMI overiding the default setting :(

    Any other ideas?

Have you tried changing the playback device after you have the HDMI cable plugged in?
I just tried this myself. Make sure you don't have any other applications open. Plug in the HDMI cable and make sure that your TV/other display is on. Once its detected, right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and go to "Playback Devices" Select either the main or the independent one and you should be able to send audio over the jacks instead of the HDMI cable.

Oh right ok I'll try this tonight thanks.
Up until now I've been trying to switch the output while something was playing - maybe this is what was stopping me change it...

It probably was. You always have to change it before any applications are open.
