Could someone please shed some light on about how long the 85 WHr Lithium Ion 9-cell battery lasts while surfing the web/word processing and how much it sticks out of the computer? I am probably buying one and I would really like to know.

I have the 9-cell on my Studio 15 with the dedicated ATi graphics, and I can squeeze close to 6 hours out of this thing. If you have the integrated 4500MHD, you'll get more.

Do you mind if I ask what the price is as configured? There are several deals floating around and wanted to make sure you get the best price! :D

    What color are getting?

That configuration is $949 if I get it in black (which I probably will) because I have an old skin from skinit that I will use anyway.

You might want to consider the higher resolution screens... the 720p screens seem to bit hit or miss.. (mostly good, but a few poor reviews)

A couple more questions, and thanks for all of the help.

    1. From the pictures it looks like there is no locking mechanism for when it is closed. Are the hinges sturdy enough so that it stays shut even when moved around a little bit? I had a friend that had a Dell a few years ago and the hinges sucked. It barely stayed open and was too tight when closed

    2. Does anyone know if the 9-cell battery feels uncomfortable on your lap? It doesn't look like it does but I want to be sure.

    3. Does it have 3 or 4 USB ports?

    4. Does it run hot?

    1) There is no lock, correct, but it won't come open unless you make it. The hinges are very sturdy. While the laptop is shut, I can hold it by the lid, leaving the body of the notebook to gravity, and it will not fall open. I have to use two hands to open it.

    2) It's not uncomfortable to me, and I keep it on my lap for an hour or two just about every night. Jeans tend to help cushion it if it does bother you, though.

    3) It has three USB ports. One on the right, just below the DVD slot, two on the left, one of which is a combination USB/eSATA port.

    4) Not to me. After an hour and a half of CoD4 with the ATi 4570 256MB with the system in my lap, the only really warm part is the touchpad, which is still comfortable. The bottom gets warm, but like I say, it's still quite comfortable after 90 minutes of intense gaming.

The hinges feel very sturdy and hold the display securely at any angle. It also holds has enough tension to hold the lid securely closed without a latch.\

The 9-cell raises the rear edge of the laptop a bit, which provides the added benefit of additional airflow. It should improve heat dissipation slightly compared to the 6-cell.

It has 3-USB ports, one of which is a USB/eSATA combo port. It also has HDMI, Firewire (4-pin IEEE 1394), VGA and a 34mm Express Card slot.

The fan kicks on when the CPU and/or GPU are under heavy load for any significant period. But they quickly kick back off after a few moments. The 9-cell battery should help with cooling, as noted above!
