I just recieved my Studio 15 last Tuesday and for the most part it works great. However, on Friday after starting up my laptop I noticed that the blue-green log on screen does not load properly. It comes up in pieces. The two icons at the bottom left of the screen show up first and then the rest of the screen follows. Other times I have had the screen come up in streaks. I can log on normally and everything else works fine. I have not been on the Internet with it yet. So far I have only installed Avast and ad-aware, Dvd shrink, dvd fab and image burn, and some songs from my mp3 player. I am planning to email Dell about this but wanted to know if anyone else has a problem like this or any suggestions on how to fix it. I also included a picture of one of the ways that it comes up (please excuse my messy desk). Thanks!

wow, that is odd. I hope someone here can help you with your problem. This is the first time I've seen that on a Dell Studio.

It depends on what video you have, whether integrated (Intel) or dedicated (ATI).

If you have the ATI 3450 you'll want to get this driver, the one on the Dell support site is dated

Okay according to my email confirmation of my order it has the 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450, I don't see it on my packaging slip, so is there anyway to double check on the laptop before I install the driver? Sebastien, should I download option 1 or 2? My laptop is the 1535
    Thanks again

If you want to confirm..go to Control Panel > Device Manager > Display Adapters. ;) :)

You can also go here: (enter your Service Tag number) to find out your system config:
(service tag info located underneath you lappy) ;) :)

For now I recommend sticking with OEM drivers.. meaning the ones from DELL (even if they are old)... My personal experience. And since you are having a pretty new system, I would suggest taking the DELL drivers from the link ATB provided.. You just have to download and run the .exe file... and let it complete the installation (it might reboot).... See how it is then!!

And btw, if you are taking the drivers from that ATI page, I would recommend taking Option 1 :) its the complete package :)

Thanks everyone! I did try the link Sebastien provided but when I restarted the computer there was no change. I will try the one on the Dell site and hopefully that one will work. I'll keep you updated. :)

Okay since the screen was still acting up I called Dell support and the guy basically did what was suggested here: he checked and installed the driver. When I restarted it the two icons at the bottom left side of the screen load first, followed by the rest of the screen. He said that this was normal and happened on a lot of Studios. I will post this question in the Studio 15 owners thread to see if it happens to anyone else or if he was just trying to get me off the phone. Other than that the laptop works fine. Thanks again everyone! :)

I know that it happens on occasion with my latitiude. (Intel x3100 integrated graphics) Part of the welcome screen will load, but the rest quickly follows.

    I guess it's just a vista thing...
