I bought a Dell Studio 15 last week. It arrived yesterday and the first thing I noticed when I turned it on was that there are tiny vertical lines all over the screen. They're not always visible, mainly just on brighter colours.

They're not colourful lines, they're almost transparent. It's definatly not the same lines caused by the overheating problem in the XPS series. These look a lot different.

I think it may have something to do with the graphics card. I have a 256 MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450 graphics card. The screen resolution is 1280x800. I've looked at the settings but don't understand them. I've tried adjusting them anyway but still haven't managed to solve the problem.

Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, is it a fault or a graphics card setting?

Any help would be great. I've had problems with my old XPS M1330 lots of times and don't want to have to contact Dell about my new Studio 15 already.

It does sound it could well be a problem with the graphics card, as the others have mentioned, a call to tech support to report the problem and a likely return is the solution for that. Don't go messing too much by yourself with graphics drivers, it should be fine out of the box.

Most likely a bad LCD panel. My sister's 2 year old MBP is developing the colored versions of those lines because she opens/closes her notebook many times per day and it has put lots of stress on the screen. RETURN IT. NOW.

Thanks for all your replies. I'll contact Dell as soon as I can. Hopefully they'll just issue me a new laptop.

I can't believe that this is my 3rd faulty Dell laptop in a row.

Dell are sending out a replacement to me so hopefully the new one won't have the same problem.

I have the same tiny transparent line on my Nokia 3250!
It is some type of damage for sure!
But my Nokia is 2 years old!
Hope they will replace your notebook!

By the way my line is visible only on brighter colors.
I believe it is screen issue!
