Hi, I'm about to buy a Studio 15 but the hardest decision is whether to fork out the £90 (equivalent to $170) Dell are charging in the UK for the WLED screen.
It's a lot of money so I'm struggling to work out whether it's worth it.
The computer will mostly be used for work (normal word/excel type stuff) but also probably to watch DVDs and streaming internet TV quite a bit, and maybe some light gaming from time to time. Also the extra resolution would be good but I work successfully with 1024x768 at the moment so might not need all that extra real-estate?
I keep hoping they're going to drop the price on the upgrade, but it doesn't look like they are going to by the time I need it for, so has anyone got any advice on whether it's worth it?

When my Studio comes I will give you an unbiased view on the new LED screens, as it hasn't cost me anything to get one so if it's not all that good i will definately say so.
Cheers

I recently received my Studio 15 with WLED. I personally think that upgrading the display is a no-brainer, its one of the most important parts of the machine.
I went into researching it quite a lot, I looked at laptops with several resolutions and also WLED vs CCFL. I concluded that 1280 x 800 standard res was not high enough, (although I use mine for java programming so real estate is good), and that the LED was a good bit brighter.
I've tried my laptop outside and I have to say it is useable, unlike my friends CCFL Dell. When you take a machine outside its the brightness that counts. Indoors I find I turn the brightness down a bit as it can be too much.
WLED displays though consume less power, achieve full brightness quicker, will not lose brightness over time and suffer from less bleeding.
I think if possible you need to go to somewhere like PC World to try out different screens. You may struggle to find an LED equipped machine to try, some macs have LED or smaller Sony machines, like 11 or 13 inch.
The upgrade is worth it only if you personally will notice the benefit. It depends how fussy you are or what your eyes like. Its a personal thing and there is no one right answer. Internet reviews can only go so far, you need to see them in the flesh. -
I would've had the WLED upgrade but unfortunately Dell don't provide it in 1920x1200 resolution which is a shame.

People claim that the 1920x1200 is WLED (it says on the box or something...).

I just can't believe, after the person telling me yesterday that it would be shipped later that day, that I'm now looking at almost another month!
I'm giving serious consideration to cancelling this order and buying a macbook pro.
EDIT: What the f**k?!?! You bought your laptop less than a week ago and you had it delivered today?!?! Did you get the 9-cell or the 6-cell battery? They did say something about that fire people were talking about. But still, I placed my order 8 days before you and I'm looking at a total shipping time over 6 weeks! Compared to 6 days!?!? If it is to do with the 9-cell, I'll just demand they ship the laptop now with a 6-cell and then when the 9-cell is ready, they can send me that and I'll send back the 6-cell. If I don't cancel this order (to be honest, I don't want to) I'll have to hire a laptop for a job I have at the end of this month, which I'll try and charge to Dell (lol, wish me luck doing that). -

Good luck -
Heyy,
I ordered mine on the 06th, perhaps the processor is slowing it down? Also the screen is definately a lot sharper (the one next to it was a grainy screen!!), it's prob my camera and the iso speed difference.
Gd luck on your laptop and I really hope it comes soon.

Oh sorry I got you, Mayhew132, mixed up with the original poster re: order and delivery time. Never mind.
