I've had my Studio 15 for about two weeks and ever since have been getting an error screen on shutdown when rebooting or shutting down the laptop. I should clarify there is no error screen when left in Dell's factory state but after I start loading programs at some point I get the error screen from then on.

The error screen closes super fast so I am unable to read it so as far as I can tell it isn't slowing down the reboot.

Called Dell and tech ran check to see if hardware was okay (it was) and then put laptop back to factory state. He added Firefox and Avast himself with no error screens on shutdown or reboot so I ended the call with him thinking everything was running fine. So I start adding more programs and the first thing I know I get the error screen back again.

It doesn't appear to me that any certain program is causing the error screen since I've uninstalled and installed my programs (about 5 times) in different order. It just seems that after adding a certain number I get the error screen and it's possible the error screen might appear after a few days even if I left in in Dell factory state.

I've taken this back to factory state twice but never left it in that condition very long because I wanted to add programs, should I? Besides the screen being irritating on a new computer do you think it's really anything since it doesn't appear to slow the shutdown or reboot? Would this be something to live with?

Also in the two weeks I've had it it maybe has froze up 5 times, once trying to close Firefox, once trying to close Outlook Express, once trying to load Dell Support Center and the other two I can't remember. Do you think this is anything? I don't know if I would call it a consistant thing or anything, could it be chalked up to being a new computer?

I can understand how you feel. An error screen on a new laptop is a crummy feeling. You can try some things here:

    1) Are you sure you cannot see what the error screen says? Is it only at shutdown that it happens? Windows shutdown is notorious for giving stupid messages.

    2) One thing to do is to leave it in the factory state to ensure the error screen does not come out. Then install just 1 program, wait and use it for a few days, then see if it happens. If not, install another program, and so on.

    3) Freezing up 5 times could be normal. I know that Firefox 3 has a BIG problem with stability. Try to monitor which programs cause the problems and log it down for further troubleshooting.

i know what u are talking about, i get it too on random shutdowns (around 20% of the time).. its says something about unhandled exception of some memory block, but before u can click continue or exit, windows shut down. From what i can see, it doesnt affect shutdown or performance in any way. if i were you, i will ignore it.

Well I have noticed a screen that has popped up one time or another when the desktop is loading which I suppose could be the same screen I'm getting on reboot or shutdown and it says something like:

Microsoft.Net Framework (JIT) Just-in-time debugging and then it goes on and on describing the error. The last sentence says : when JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by the dialog box.

What is this and if this is the shutdown error screen I'm getting then how do I get rid of it? If I can't then maybe I'll ignore it.
