Hit up the Dell website, and install the fingerprint reader drivers. After they are in, make sure it works.
How hot does the palmrest get? How long does it take to heat up? -
accordingto my laser thermometer 95-97 degrees farenhright its been on for about 1-2 hours?
-
also where/what would the driver be under because i am having a hard time locating it

It (the driver) is under SECURITY
Can't help you with the heat--the one I had also had a lot of heat.
Cannot help you with the speakers--the one I had also had crap speakers -
The speakers on this laptop suck big time. No software is going to help the quality enough to make it bearable. I would invest in a good pair of headphones. You will hear the difference that way.
About the palm rests, mine do get warm as well. I don't know exactly how hot (I don't have anything to measure it with...) but it's normal. If it bothers you get an external keyboard to use when you're at your desk.
Also, to get the driver, go to support.dell.com, click "I'm looking for drivers and downloads", select your model from the popup, and then on the resulting page go to "security". That's the driver you need. -
okay thanks i got the driver to work... i had to un-install both the fingerprint things and then reinstall them...and yea speakers suck dissapointed in you dell lol!...anyways anyone have any settings for the audigy to make them sound better or at least quit clicking when listening to something
-
I'm glad you got it working. Unfortunately I don't have the audigy software, so I can't really help you there. The only thing I can think of is to not turn them up so loud. The clicking is probably the speakers cutting our as a result of being overdriven. Does the clicking occur at all volume levels or just at full volume?
-
hmmm im not sure the speakers are so quit i have them all the way up....ill try later...ok now i have this weird problem while i am typing i keep getting this random sound i dont know how to explain it! it is weird!...also something else i am not too happy about is when i put pressure on the graphite part by the touchpad it makes a noise from flexing against the bottom part of the case ok nm 86 the first problem i figure it out my palm was hitting the fingerprint reader by accident....danget they could have moved that over a bit more lol oh well
-
Actually for what is the Audigy software good for?
-
idk I thought it improved the speakers...dont get it...
-
Hahahah...that was the first solution I was going to make! I kept hitting that thing and it kept making noise and it took me the longest time to figure it out!
And too bad about the flex noise...I don't have any of that. -
Check out this thread concerning the sound problems: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=277704
In short, if you have the 1510 'n' wireless card, disable the 'a'-band transmission. -
that could be my problem^^^^ and you dont have any problem where the gray and black meet in the front making sound because of them rubbing/hitting together
-
oh and i new problem YAY I LOVE DELL
NOT :smileymad: i keep losing sound and have to restart...i check device manager everything looks good yet no sound
-
I'm pretty sure the audigy software works like creative's XFI system. It just upconverts the audio signal to 24 bits from 16 and has some fancy signal processing it goes through to 'fill in the gaps', so to speak. The only difference being that it does it in software as opposed to hardware. The reason the speakers sound horrible even with the software is that you can only go as far as the hardware allows you too. There is only so much you can do to improve it. If you pump the sound through some good headphones you will notice a difference.
Just remember, you have to have good hardware to enjoy the effects of good sound, regardless of how much processing it goes through.
EDIT: geezz you guys responded while I was typing...yeah the black and grey pieces should be glued together int he front. Yous probably just didn't get enough glue on it and its a little loose. As for the no sound issue, I would uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the sound and see if that fixes it. It may fix the clicking issue as well, so it's worth a try. -
yea there is no glue in the front and i got the speakers working again
-
Glad you got the sound working again.
Bummer about the glue...if it's not too much of an inconvenience, dell would replace it for you. Just tell them all the problems you've had so far and I'm sure they will hook you up with a new one
-
lol what does this mean?...another week or two?
-
Yeah if you send it back it will take a couple weeks. They will probably give you a time estimate when you talk to them.
-
err i still have the clicking it only stops when i disable g/b but then i do not have an internet connection......i thought i could connect through N?
-
my parents might kill me...but....whats the return policy on dells computers?
-
Depends on where you live.
-
united states / austin texas
-
if i could just get rid of the crackling noise in the speakers i think i would settle...... but disabling a band doesnt work however if i disable b/g band it works perfect but no internet
-
In that case I would send it back.
-
well i talked to the lady she uninstalled reinstalled the drivers which fixed the sound for a little bit then it went back to crackling....anyways they are sending over a dell tech to fix the part in the front that is not glued....and then ill ask him about the audio
Studio 15 just came in the mail! PROBLEMS!
