I can confirm that this has stopped my studio 1537 eject key on the media panel freezing at start up
-
-
Wow, this is exciting news. I'm going to wait for more success stories before installing it on mine, but this is great!
--Eric -
I flashed the firmware from X-0C to X-0D. I noticed it STILL ejects the drive during a cold boot. Does anyone else notice this? I haven't had a chance to shut it off for 8 hours to give it the ultimate test.
-
Is the eject button still stuck when you boot? As far as I know, the optical drive will make some noise when you boot up your laptop.
-
this is amazing, I'll give my feedback tomorrow morning, since I just did the upgrade... let's hope for the best!!
-
I just ran the firmware update about an hour ago. After removing the battery and power for a short while, the first thing I noticed on startup was that the drive didn't make the eject noise when the lights flashed in sequence. So far, the eject button has not stuck or gone inactive. I think we may have struck gold with this firmware update.
-
all night long, the lappy off... this morning I turn it on... and voilà, no button freeze, everything works like a charm, let's keep our fingers crossed guys, this might be it
-
Glad to hear that it's working fine for those who have tried.
-
after half a year of waiting for a fix and having exchanged that cover 3 times, this firmware really seems to solve the problem.
-
This is amazing, i've had no problems since flashing this firmware! The touch buttons are all of a sudden a pleasure to use! Finally i have a laptop thats working exactly how it should. I'm one happy chap
-
Thanks guys this worked perfectly. Finally there is a fix for this issue after so much time. Hard to believe it took Dell this long to fix it and they haven't even posted it on their own support site.
Thanks again! -
I guess I spoke too soon; my eject button just went dead again.
Back to square one... -
Dell needs to get this tested and up on the support page for the 1535/1536/1537, pronto!
Ciao,
~Aryq~ -
It's been several days and I can attest that this firmware update did the trick! This is how my 1537 should have arrived in November 2008.
-
-
-
explain yourself mastershroom... I can't really understand what's happening with your Studio
-
Flashed from X-0C to X-0D , eject problem that I had coming out of sleep mode and on cold boots seems to be fixed and the panel is responding to touch a lot better (I used to have to practically pound on the MediaDirect button to get it to work, now its flawless). The only thing I have noticed is that the lights don't cycle on boot anymore.
-
Anyway, even though I still had the nonresponsive button issue yesterday, that was the only time it's happened since I updated the firmware. Even if it hasn't completely fixed the issue, it's at least far less frequent than it used to be. I still consider this update to be pretty successful. -
mastershroom: I assume you are using the 1535? Maybe there's a difference as to why the media panel doesnt light up on boot with the 1537.
Regardless, im pretty pleased. Now when I go to install Office it wont randomly spit the disk out and cause a failed install. -
Correct, I have the 1535 model. Not sure why the 1537 would suddenly stop flashing the media lights on boot, though.
For that matter, if anyone here has a 1536 (the AMD model), do your lights still flash on bootup after updating the firmware? -
Im curious to see if this corrects the ACPI errors ive been seeing the Event Viewer.
-
On my 1537 the media panel lights still light up on cold boot and i get the eject noise, but the media panel has not frozen in a good while, it used to freeze every cold boot.
-
FYI, the replacement hinge cover I received (which fixed the volume issue) is less sensitive than the original. I have to really push my finger down to make each of the capacitive buttons function.
-
-
Okay, I am now on my third bootup in a row in which the eject button has failed again. It looks like this firmware update only fixes the freezing on startup, but not the sudden loss of functionality later on. It lights up when pressed, and all the other buttons are fine, but the eject button still fails to eject, seemingly at random. I cannot recreate the error if I try, but it happens inevitably.
Back to square one. *Crosses fingers* Time to get back on the line with Dell. >_< -
Looks like it's official: http://support.dell.com/support/top...4D795085ECBB68E040AE0AB7E117DD&doclang=en&cs=
-
Does anyone know if we should flash again with these newly official firmware, or if the leaked one was the exact same thing?
Ciao
~Aryq~ -
X0D is the same firmware released in the "leaked" version. X0C is what I originally had.
-
Ciao
Eric -
For those of you who have applied this, if you pop your battery out and disconnect the A/C, hold down the power button for ~10 seconds, put the battery back in and reconnect the A/C adapter and turn your machine on, do the buttons on your media bar light up one at a time in the order of right-left-right like before, or do they just stay off?

It is great to hear that most of us here who have tested the firmware seems to have the media button problem resolved.....FINALLY ??
This should be one of the greatest news everyone has been waiting for patiently for the past 1 year ( or more ). -
Yes, my media buttons do the KITT pattern when it starts up.
X0D totally fixed the problems I've been experiencing, although my buttons aren't as sensitive now but that is because of the new replacement panel. -
I have 2 studio 1537 laptops
1 of them had an occasional eject problem, the other use to eject on every boot.
Since upgrading the firmware with the first link posted, both laptops have been fixed from this eject on boot issue.
I assume there is no difference between the first file posted and dell's official file. -
Mine only seems to cycle with the test pattern when I hit the MediaDirect button on cold boot. Odd.
-
-
The file didnt go through the official process of testing, so they removed it: http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19125998.aspx?PageIndex=14
-
What testing does this really need to go through? It fixes the issue, that should be enough
-
Hmm somethings fishy.
-
Not fishy, they just haven't fully tested it yet. Dell, for obvious reasons, doesn't want to put anything up for download if they aren't sure that it works 100% and won't break anything.
-
Is there anywhere that I can download this even though it has been removed?
Instead of my eject button staying stuck, now my volume button is staying stuck and won't let me lower the volume. -
I read that the volume button issue only occurs with old media panels (hinge covers). My 1537 was made November 2008 and I had the eject and volume issue. I asked Dell to send a replacement around a few months ago and it fixed the volume problem, but the eject would get stuck. The X0D firmware fixed the eject issue.
-
-
I had both, the volume and the eject issue. The new firmware fixed everything.
-
Installed the update and fixed my issue. Its kind of a bummer that the media lights don't light up from left to right and back any longer when u first power on.
Kind of thought that was cool looking...
Stephen -
For what its worth...
The media lights still go back and forth at boot on my 1537, after installing the new firmware.
Its weird how for some people it has stopped the lights from running back and forth, and others it still works.
Luckily, the new firmware has completely fixed the sticking eject on boot for me.
Slammers, are you 1535 or 1537?
--Eric -
My 1535's lights still flash back and forth upon startup.

ha ha.
