I found my laptop started getting very hot after one year, with the fans on full blast far too often.

Solution: hoover all the vents. It made my system much cooler and the fans have quietened down.

What does it do? Run additional diagnostics? Does it happen all the time?

If it was just a one off or something, could be you had the Fn key pressed accidentally when you pushed the power button. This will automatically launch the diagnostics.

I tried this so called firmware on my Studio 1735 (I hoped there is no differ between 17's and 15's.............I was wrong!!!)
Now the eject button still works inconstantly. Media buttons (play,stop/etc. DO NOT WORK AT ALL!!!)
Thanks God,I still have 3 volume buttons working!
    Any thoughts?

You probably shouldn't have installed firmware for a device different from what's on your computer. :p

Luckily, if you tell Dell your panel stopped working, they'll send you a new one if you have warranty. If you don't, you can buy one for like $30 at parts-people.com.

Yeah, but I think it's not a hardware problem. It seems as if a wrong driver was installed.
Maybe if I found original dell's firmware...... but where to find it :( that's the question

I am still having this problem intermittently, definitely not an accidental Fn key pressed. Also don't think is a stuck key as it is intermittent. Anybody having this problem?

Wow...it's depressing that this issue is *still* so widespread!

I've had this problem from day one of owning my studio 1535...I learned to live with it for a long time...even though it was REALLY annoying sometimes.

So a couple weeks ago, my power adapter failed, and I had to call dell to send me a replacement. They sent a motherboard, a new key board, a new adapter, and a new hinge cover (I don't know why, I just wanted a new adapter...)

Anyways, while the technician was replacing the motherboard, I told him to just disconnect the entire media control panel, so all of those touch sensitive buttons no longer light up. I now have no problems! :p

I wish I could still use the buttons, but the problem was so frustrating I'd rather just not have those stupid buttons at all. I can easily just control everything through windows, so whatever.

My 1537 works fine after the secret firmware was uploaded.
