wooo hoo! it looks nice i cant waittt. i ordered mine last week also but it still says in production... i got basically the same specs except the regular screen and a finger print reader.

 

I was wondering if anyone posted pics of the plum purple color. Purple seems to get no love and I'm dying to see how "dark" the color really is.

Great idea for a thread! If I had a camera that worked, I would join in when I get mine.

 

Can u click one of the 2 USB ports on the right? I have got one of them to different than other (I am guessing its e-SATA and not USB but I can't be sure as I dont have any e-sata device)

Got them, bear in mind this is in fairly bright sunlight and it does look a touch darker (a bit more like plumb actually). Also, sorry for the slight blur, I did them fairly quickly.

Great idea using your cell phone to take pictures. I tend to forget that my cell phone even does that since I hardly use that function. I use bluetooth to make my own ringtones so I already have everything to put them on the web. I'll try to share when I get my laptop.

 

wish my Dell XPS m1330 had a backlit keyboard..

 

Wow that's really nice. I like the fact that the black covers the WHOLE outside of the laptop and it isnt two-toned. It gives it a stealthy...something look.

 

Does anyone know if the HDMI port on the studio 15 outputs both audio and video and at what hz is the max refresh rate on that? BTW Nice pics!

I thought someone on here said that audio does work over the HDMI
maybe it depends on the video card

there was also some mention of having to log off then back on for it to work correctly

I ordered one and just got the black because I didn't really care about the color, and I had thought the orange looked nice but your picture actually makes the black look very nice and I'm happy I didn't go for the orange.

 

I just fell in love with the purple. Its such a pretty shade

 

I was torn between purple and orange right up until I ordered. Glad I went for purple in the end (no disrespect to orange owners, they look fantastic as well) because it's a touch less vibrant and the orange seems to be more popular/common.

Also, I think the HDMI audio is dependent on if you have the Radion card or intergrated graphics. I have the Radion and if I right click the speaker symbol near the clock and select "Playback Devices" it gives me the option of "Digital output device (HDMI)". Haven't been able to test it yet but will give it a go when I get back to my flat in uni. I'll also stick some pics up later today (visiting family in a minute) showing what I mean.

This would lead me to assume that the HDMI can output audio (at least with the dedicated graphics).

 

It looks fantastic! Too bad 15.4" is too big for me. Do you think Dell will release a 13.3"?

 

They won't be releasing a 13.3" of this model. They have the XPS 1330 and the new Inspiron 13 for the compact notebook. Also the Inspiron 13 looks like a Studio design wise, just doesn't have the name.

 

Those jet black pics are helping me to rest easy now....great pics, really classy.....plum doesn't look too bad either.....wasn't a big fan of spring green as my sister bought a spring green inspiron 1525 last yr....It looks ok, but not my style

What do most people think of the swirly thing on the palmrest? I saw a Studio 15 for the first time today as they finally have one in stock in PC World in the UK (I wouldn't buy it from here).

I thought the Studio looks nice but on the left side it seems quite "chunky" compared to some other 15.4" laptops. Overall really like it though and the swirly thing is the only bit i'm not so sure about. Just looks a bit like milk has been spilt, but its obvious Dell are going for a slightly arty look on the palmrest.

The laptop will be for my Girlfriends birthday when I order it tomorrow but just wondered if people who own it like that swirl or think it just looks out of place? Also if anybody else has any close up pics of the swirly that would be great!

Awesome pics so far. I am going to buy it for her in Red, it's a suprise.

I will have to try out some of those games on my XPS with 1 of my 360 controllers. Does gear of War run well on your studio~?

 

Gears of War? It ran pretty well, but only on low to medium graphic settings. We have the same specs except that I have the ATI HD3450.
C2d T8100 2.1Ghz
3 GB DDR2
256MB ATI HD3450

I think GOW will run on higher settings than mine.

I will post the pics for the swirl design that you're looking for later.

Here are the swirl design that I took from my Studio.

 

Thankyou very much gheagz!! I have just gone ahead and ordered a Red Studio 15 for my girlfriend! I wasn't sure on the swirl design on the one that I quickly saw in the store, but turns out the one in the store had some gunk sorta stuff on it lol, maybe some of the protective plastics didn't come off right.

It's still quite strange and sort of looks like spilt milk in a way lol. I'm guessin it's on there because the Studio is aimed partly at artistic people!

On a side note I tried Crysis Warhead on my XPS and used my Xbox 360 controller to see how well it worked and soon as I started up Crysis:WH it detected the 360 controller and I didn't even need to configure it, even gives rumble (force feedback). Pretty good! Think for games like Crysis a keyboard is better but the controller will work very well with Need for Speed and Gears of War!

 

I am going bald trying to figure out what color to choose ,anybody with the blue one please post the pics . I am inclined towards the blue one but the black one is looking so cool in the pics posted back on the 2nd page.

 

Black is evergreen color..
Though i wanted a change so ordered Ruby Red... that aint bad either...

 

I really like the "sea sky" color, but didn't want to shell out the additional $50 or whatever it was.

Jet black for me.
