I'm seriously considering the Studio 15. My only hesitation is the slot
loading DVD drive. I only have experience with tray drives, so I was
wondering what you guys think about the slot loader. Does it leave
any kinds of marks, or scratches, when it grabs or ejects a disc?
Would you say they are more reliable, or less reliable, than a tray
loader?
Is the noise about the same, when the disc is running?
Thanks for your input.

Slot load drives have been around for years. IMHO they are as reliable as tray load (less ikely to get damaged by the user), they are quite and I have never seen one leave a mark.
Car CD/DVD have been slot designs for many years so we aren't really dealing with any new technology here. -
Were you trying to say they are quiet? Because well, Dell is not known for their quiet slot-loading drives
Mine on my m1530 is not bad by any means, and I would consider it quiet compared to other m1530's I have heard. But using the term quiet as a relative term, no.... lol

though, there is far less space for the loading mechanism. I was fearful
that this could result in compromises. Glad to hear that laptop loaders
are offer good, reliable performance.
I don't really care about noise from the mechanism, when loading and
ejecting. If it's reasonably quiet while spinning, I'll be a happy camper

it's fine with the ps3.
