I have been conecting my Studio 15 laptop to my 720p HDTV for months. Some days it works fine, most days it doesn't. When I hook up the hdmi, the screen will appear on the HDTV, several seconds go by, both screens go blank and then the picture is back on the laptop. It then refreshes the screen every 5 seconds or so. I have tried starting the computer with the HDMI already hooked up and the TV at the correct input. I havetried adjusting the resolution on the laptop to match the TV resolution. I am out of ideas. It seems like it is completely tempermental. Is there anything specifically I can do? Thanks.

Thanks for your input. The computer is only about 4 months old, and i have been having this problem since the beginning. Shouldn't the video card and bios been updated to the most current when I purchased from Dell? Also, would updating the BIOS have any effect on the warranty? Thanks. :D

If you have anything else plugged in to the TV(like a DVR) try turning them off before you start the computer.

Not really. Usually they just dump an image on the drive that is a certain age and it'll only have drivers on it from that time. And the BIOS even moreso.

Updating the BIOS should not void your warranty considering the updates are offered by dell through their support site right along with updated drivers. Not to mention considering how user friendly they have made bios updates over the past number of years. Used to be you needed command line knowledge and a floppy drive and some good tech skills. Now it's as simple as a basic install wizard inside of windows where you just click, click, click, reboot and it's done.
