    Hi

    I'm a long time reader for Notebookreview but first time poster.

    I got my Studio 15 about 3 days ago. Now I'm planning to buy Logitech X-530 speakers for my room. I was wondering if the laptop is equipped with the hardware to be able to play all Logitech speakers (4 + 1 subwoofer) [IMG]

    Its specs are: Total RMS Power: 70.1 Watts

    * Subwoofer: 25 watts RMS into 4 ohms at 100Hz at 10% THD (total harmonic distortion) clipping
    * Satellites: 45.1 watts RMS (2x7.4w Front; 15.5w Center: 2x7.4w Rear) into 4 ohms at 1 kHz at 10% THD clipping
    * Total Peak Power: 140Watts at <10%THD
    * System THD: Better than 0.07% THD before clipping

    Signal to noise ratio: >99db

    Frequency response: 40Hz – 20 kHz

    Driver Size: 2” high excursion satellites, 5.25” high excursion subwoofer

    Speaker dimensions:

    * Satellites: (H) 8” x (W) 2.5” x (D) 3”
    * Center: (H) 2.5” x (W) 8” x (D) 3”
    * Subwoofer: (H) 11.5” x (W) 6” x (D) 9.25”

    and my computer's specs are

    Core2Duo Processor T9400
    (2.53GHz, 6MB Cache)
    320GB SATA Hard Drive
    3GB RAM
    TFT Display with TrueLife
    Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio

    I was reading this review and it said:

    I was wondering what sound card is included in Studio 15? Sorry I'm totally new to this.

    Thanks for your time :)

    In device manager, under speaker it says "intel high definition audio hdmi" just incase it has something to do with this.

    looks like I'm answering my own questions :D

    I was going through the laptop manual and under audio controller, it says "5.1 channel high definition audio".. so is it safe to assume that those speakers will work?

    I cant tell exactly what you have but based on this

    Sound Blaster Audigy® 2 has a built in Dolby Digital EX decoder for the most dramatic movie audio. With full support for 7 audio channels, you can enjoy the excitement and power of a movie theater experience on your PC.

    It seems this will be able to play it if you do have the Audigy Card

    On dell's tech spec sheet the studio 15 comes with either

    Intel High Definition Audio 2.0 OR
    Optional Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced HD Software Edition

    However I believe both cars will support your speaker set

    Hi mate

    Thanks for your time.

    I have Sound Blaster Audigy thingy.. I remember paying extra 30 bucks for it when designing my laptop. So I'm confident it will take all 5 channels.

    Yes, if you got a soundcard it will work. However if you have not bought those speakers yet i recommend you bump them up to the next level if you can afford it.

    Hi

    Thanks for your message.

    I'm not keen on buying speakers at the next level because of my budget and my needs (the room I'm installing them is on a smallish side so I do not think I need anything more powerful than X530s. I already have a sony home theater in the next room)

    From what I see, Studio 15 has 3x 3.5mm audio jacks. And if the manual says it supports 5.1, then you should be able to configure those three jacks as Front, Center and rear speaker outputs for a 5.1 system. That was how it worked in all XPS notebooks with three audio jacks, came before Studio 15.

    Hi guys

    Thanks for your messages. I have finally found out how to set 5.1 configuration. My speakers will arrive tomorrow but now I'm 99% confident that they will all work. If someone needs to know how to change the settings let me know.. Cheers.
