my mom, 80, recently purchased a studio 17, and the erratic touch pad is driving her insane!! it just takes off and spins out of control for no apparent reason. is there a rather simple way of explaining a possible fix for this? she has spoken to dell, to no avail. it is very frustrating.
    thanks

Have you installed the specific touchpad driver (Alps or Synaptics)?

Best way is to go to support.dell.com and punch in your service tag. Most of the time Dell will have the specific touchpad driver ready for download. It should fix the issue, but there is also the off chance your touchpad is genuinely defective. It's also possible for the touchpad driver to make it worse (generally not the case).
