Hello, this is my first post. I ordered my Studio 15, on Monday (5th), with the following specs:

    C2D T8300 2.4GHz
    4GB RAM
    160GB 7200rpm hdd (I specifically requested the 7200rpm drive)
15.4in Widescreen WUXGA with Truelife - CCFL
256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450
    9-cell battery
    DVD R/W
    Jet Black
Finger print reader, blacklit keyboard etc

I know it's not a bog standard pre-built system (the 7200rpm drive, WUXGA screen - which I had to ask and ask and ask about before they said they could include as it's a screen usually only available with the 17" machines), but I wondered if there are any other delays I could expect? I know the Dell website says the jet black colour is causing a delay of 2 weeks, but when I made the order, the guy said "don't worry, it's just a 4 day delay" so I went ahead with it.

This is Dell UK btw - I see a lot of US based delay info here, but am yet to find a UK based thread.

    Thanks very much.

    what's your ETA?

This seems like a pretty modified config, seeing the trend here, you can expect some delays

    ETA is 21/08/08

EDIT: I also just did some reading and apparently I might have made a mistake with the 15.4in Widescreen WUXGA with Truelife - CCFL!!! The Dell Salesperson told me it's the best screen they do and only a £10 increase in price on the £90 upgrade to the WLED display.

Argh, did I make a mistake? I believe the resolution is better, but my main concern is sharpness.

well...21st for a 5th order is already quite a bit of delay so may be you should get it as promised.....but don't take my word for it :)

Okay, no need for me to panic - the WUXGA screen I ordered is 1920x1200 resolution, compared to the 1440x900 that is offered with the WLED, thank god for that - I was genuinely beginning to panic.

I need the resolution and sharpness because I'm a filmmaker and photographer and in terms of editing photos, sharpness is absolutely key to me.

I also spoke to the sales dude, he told me I could expect delivery around this time next week or very early the week after.

Don't believe everything a Dell rep tells you, they don't know much about orders. I called the day my laptop was supposed to ship. I asked why it still said it was in the build stage, they said don't worry it will ship out tonight. I ended up getting a delay email 2 hours later.

They will tell you what you want to hear.
