Can someone confirm whether the optional WUXGA (1920x1200) display is an LCD or LED? I know the base/standard WXGA (1280x800) is an LCD and the WXGA+ (1440x900) is an LED, which explains why it's a $125 upgrade. I just wasn't sure about the WUXGA, though....
Thanks!

I don't know the direct answer since I don't research Dells, however, just fyi, they'll both be LCD.
LCD = screen type.
LED = back lighting type.
It'll either be LED LCD or CCFL LCD. I'm assuming CCFL LCD, however, because afaik, they don't make WUXGA LED LCD screens yet. -

What I infer from your statement is-
WXGA (1280x800) display is CCFL LCD
WXGA+ (1440x900) display is LED LCD
WUXGA (1920x1200) display is CCFL LCD
Thanks. -
Though a 1920x1200 is definitely worth it. I wish I could find a 37-32 inch tv that had 1080p resolutions so I could have something similar.
-
i suspect the 1920x1200 resolution to be LCD because the upgrade is only $25 more if your upgrading from the 1440x900 LED screen. Plus they mention LCD or LED for the screens.
-
the WUXGA (1900x1200) display is CCFL
just to confirm -
Actually it's now LED to confirm. All 2 option, 720, 900, and 1080 are LED. And LED saves power and looks nicer, to confirm.

Welcome to the forums, but you kinda beat a dead horse here; this thread hasn't been posted in since September. And this was way before the Studio 15 adopted the 16:9 aspect ratio with 720p/900p/1080p displays.
-
^ Yeah, it's regarding the 16:10 Studio 15 (1535/1537.)
WUXGA for the 1535/1537 is 1920x1200 and is a CCFL LCD.
1080p for the 1555 is 1920x1080 and is a LED LCD. -
a query here: can one upgrade the screen psot-purchase? like i buy the 1080p screen from ebay or somewhere and put it in place myself? would it work?
they don't offfer 1080p/900p in my country. -

I'm not sure if you have a 1535/1537 or the newer 1555. On the 1535/1537, if it currently has CCFL backlighting and you plan to switch to LED backlighting OR vice versa (has LED but switching to CCFL), it will require a different inverter.
The display bezel (surround) on all of the Studio 15s is very simple to remove, which is on of the first steps.
Beyond that, I'll leave it up to the true technophiles... -

Here are the types of backlighting for each display type-
1535- WXGA (1280x800) CCFL, WXGA+ (1440x900) LED, WUXGA (1920x1200) CCFL
1536- WXGA (1280x800) CCFL
*Note- the Dell Manual also lists a WXGA+ (1440x900) CCFL display, but I am unaware of any U.S.-spec models with that display.
1537- WXGA (1280x800) LED, WXGA+ (1440x900) LED, WUXGA (1920x1200) CCFL
1555- 720p, 900p & 1080p are all LED -
I have a 1555.

Yes, replacing the display is possible. It's pretty tricky, but definitely doable.
In fact, Dell has instructions on their own support site:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/studio1555/en/SM/display.htm#wp1179838
Basically, you have to remove the display from the laptop's base and then disassemble it. As long as you follow the instructions you should be fine. -
thanks buddy.
this brings us to next question. where to source it? any clue on that? I see that you sourced a couple of parts for your earlier 153X. -
Unfortunately I can't help you there. The parts resellers I normally use don't have parts for the 1555 because it's a relatively new model. Ebay isn't turning anything up either.
