    I need help please………. I have a studio 1535 dell with backlit keyboard
    It is 2 years old but might have a year’s worth of use as I type the occasional paper for school or surf the web. 2 weeks ago it started multiple letters per keystroke.
    I questioned Dell on 9/05 and they said it was the keyboard, I agreed since I ran a live Ubuntu disk and had issues with the same keys and I had removed the keyboard and checked the connections. They sold me the keyboard told me it was in stock ………come to find out it was the wrong one…….I only questioned it when the in stock keyboard was delayed past its delivery date 9/08. When I called to check what had happened on 9/09 they told me that it was delayed and sent me to 3 different departments the third one telling me that the wrong keyboard was ordered and it was their fault but it would cost me $30 more than previously quoted one and that it was also in stock.
    After spending 3 hours on the phone complaining about how I gave them their service tag numbers and told them it was backlit and that I did not understand how they could accept blame for their mistake and make good on the previously agreed upon price sorry it $30 more and in stock. I spoke to the spare parts supervisor told me he could not help me it is $30 more and that’s what it is told me that customer service could do more, was sent to them tells me it is what it is $30 dollars more just because they made the mistake does not mean anything it is $30 more I asked for a supervisor this person was calling himself Mayank. Mayank told me that he was a far as I was going to go and there was nothing he could do for me about the sudden price change but could give me ”next day air….a $20 value. “ I told him that it was not my fault I gave your “tech” people all info I had on my laptop(ie service tag#) even told them it’s a backlit keyboard i was told a price and that it was in stock the fact that it was the wrong part, was not in stock and I only know this because I was calling to see why it was not here a day after they told me it would be I asked to speak to his supervisor and I was told “ I am as high as you will go” and ”my boss does not talk on the phone.” I am sorry but customer service is nonexistent and he was only the second person in customer service to whom I spoke. So I agreed I can’t afford to have a $1500.00 paper weight.
    So he sent me back to the spare parts dept. were they tried to give me the wrong part again, I told them to look again and to get their supervisor or read the notes on this call and after a few moments of some babble in a different language they found the correct one….. Mayank said to me he would call me back (I think the name is made-up because this guy sounded very different but still claimed to be Mayank) and set up me next day air for free . a$20 value. This happened late Thursday 9/09 one week after the laptop failed. Today is Wednesday 9/15 it arrived today and the box read FED-EX Ground….
    Long story longer I installed the new keyboard the only difference is the new num-lock led lights up where mine stopped the same time the keys got jacked up……….
    Just to add to this mess for your info
    Windows 7 = issues YES
    Ubuntu = issues YES (a little different)
    Key tester visually show problems YES
    Keys go:
    ‘ = F6’ ............. i = iop ................ k = kl;
    F6 = F6’ ..............o = iop.................. l = kl;
    ...................................P = iop..................; = kl;

    F7 = ]F7[............F8 = =F8-................ , = ,.\\
    [ = ]F7[............ = = =F8-................ . = ,.\\
    ] = ]F7[............ - = =F8- .............. \ =only \\

    8 = 890
    9 = 890
    0 = 890

    With Ubuntu same keys have issues and same patterns only difference is:
    i= iopppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
    p= iopppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
    o= iopppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
    you have to press a key in the pattern to stop the p’s

    After doing that
    i= p
    p= p
    o= p
    Same for all combinations……………………………….. HELP please I know this is overkill and a lot whinny but a lot of money might be lost and I literally turned it on closed the lid went to get something opened the lid and now it’s jacked

    please forgive me .................... Dave

    I have come to expect that anything can go wrong with the Studio 1535/1537. These machines were built to the lowest quality standards by using the cheapest parts possible. I've used 2 1535s and 1 1537, each have had random part failures within 6 months of usage.

    If there is anything I learned, it is I will never buy a Dell again.

    OP, sorry to hear about your experiences; however, given Dell's "tech support" and "customer service," this is not surprising. I would formally document the issue, the steps you took, and the run-around Dell gave in response. With this documentation saved in Word, I would go to the BBB and submit a complaint. I have also heard of others formally writing an email of complaint to the board of directors of Dell Inc. and Michael Dell.

    Good luck.
