    Hi,

I recently managed to break off the tabs on one of the keys of my keyboard. Since replacing a single key is apparently not so easy as it seems (different kinds of attaching them), I ultimately decided to replace the whole keyboard with a backlit one.

Here's the deal though: I installed a newer kind of keyboard with the media control buttons on the keyboard (on the F-keys), I thought this could be usefull to control them in the dark (the original ones only light up when you press them). Only problem is: the new ones on my new keyboard don't work and also prohibit me from using my function keys.

So the question is: how can I make these work? I already tried to install a newer version of Quickset (specifically for the 1537 and the 1555, because the keyboard seems to be geared towards these models) to no avail. Any and all help greatly appreciated.

If your original keyboard did not have media keys on the keyboard, the media buttons on your new keyboard will not work.

The media keys aren't "tied" to the keyboard so to speak; it's the laptop's job to interpret those keys as media keys. If your machine did not originally interpret those keys as media keys, I do not believe there is a way to change that.

Ok, I already suspected that would be the case. Thanks for confirming.
