Studio 1535 won't eject disc

I've had a Dell Studio 1535 for a couple months now and have had no problems with it at all. In the past couple weeks I've been backing up my dvd's and have done them all so far succesfully until now.

I put a blank dvd disc into the slot loading drive and it sucked it in just like it does every time. When I click start to begin burning I get a message from the program that there is no disc in the drive. I go into my computer and right click on the e: drive and select "explore" and it says "please insert a disc into the drive". So for some reason the blank dvd disc isn't being read and the computer doesn't acknowledge that there is a disc in the drive. I've tried many methods to eject the disc but all have failed.

Things I have tried:

-Obviously pressing the light up eject button on the top of the keyboard
-Right clicking the drive in my computer and selecting "eject"
-fn + F10
-holding eject through reboot
-various eject applications
-"eject e:" in cmd


After hours of searching online I can't seem to find anything that works. But I don't think the drive is broken I just think that when I press eject it doesn't do the action of ejecting because it doesn't think there is a disc inside.

Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone help me?

 

The drive used in the studio 1535 is a sony optiarc dvd drive.
The actual drive does not have a front cover, however the cover is part of the shell of the laptop.
I was just operating on a friends 1535, and you need to take the whole system apart to get the optical drive out of it.You can try to get the disc out though.
Take a flashlight and look into the slot where the disc goes.
You should see a metal piece on one side of the drive. This keeps the disc from flying out of the drive.
You need to push the metal piece down with a paperclip or something. This metal piece usually gets caught on my DVR-K06 slot loading drives, so all I do is push down and the disc comes right out

The problem is caused by pressure on the optical drive.
Pick up your laptop from the left side from now on, so that you do not put pressure on your optical drive

Thanks K-TRON, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get it out trying what you said. But I really don't think that my drive is broken, I think it just doesn't take action to eject when I press the button because it thinks there is no disc in it. It doesn't even sound like it makes an attempt to eject.

Does this make any sense?

Is there any way to force an ejection? I tried "eject e:" in the cmd but nothing happened. Maybe theres another command for it?

 

Maybe the drive became disconnected.
The actual drive is a bit weird in how it is installed. Their is a SATA adaptor which plugs the mini SATA optical drive into the motherboard. However it is a slide adaptor, not a physical male/female connector. Maybe it is loose on yours. Try pushing the drive in and see if it starts becoming active again.

Did you accidentally shut it off in device manager?
I know if you accidentally disable the drive it will no longer function.

I have a similar issue. The touch-sensitive eject button doesn't usually eject the disk, nor does Fn+F10, although right-clicking the drive and selecting "Eject" works every time, as does ejecting a music CD via iTunes.

The rest of the media buttons (volume, etc.) work just fine, and the eject button works for the first few minutes after booting up the computer, but then it stops and doesn't work again. Ideas? I've already tried discharging it (removing the battery, holding the power button).

 

This is how it started for me too. The touch eject button usually didn't work and I would do the my computer > right click e: > eject and it would work every time, but now nothing works. Hopefully this isn't the starting symptom of the ejection totally not working.

I took it back in to Future Shop yesterday and watched the guy try all the things I already tried, then he took it in the back and unscrewed it all (from under the battery) popped the touch key panel out and tried to get to the disk drive somehow. I couldn't see exactly what he was doing cause he was in the back room with his back turned to me and I was only looking through the window. When he came back out he told me that he wasn't able to get it out cause the metal lock was in place and he wasn't able to access the drive from the inside. I had a choice to send it in to dell or order the new part to be shipped to future shop and they would install it, I need my computer for school so I opted to get the part shipped. Luckily its under warranty.

So basically I'm stuck with this useless drive for a couple weeks.... Thanks Dell!

 

Similar problems here too!

I only noticed it last night after trying to burn some DVD's, it's actually the first time i've burned anything using it and i've had this since november.

Basically when the burn is finished, i try to eject the disk using the touch button, and it glows as normal but makes no attempt to actuallu eject, i get no noise at all. The only way i've been able to get them out is to go through "Computor" and eject that way.

It seems to only happen when i've written a CD or DVD, very strange. I thought it might be something like the drive doesn't recognise that the burning process has finish, so won't eject in the normal way. But i'm a noob so no doubt i'm wrong
