When using my AC Adapter it gets really hot at least 3x the heat of my previous laptop AC Adapter. Also it takes a little bit less that 2 hours to charge my 9 cell battery.

    Is this heat normal?
    Is the charging time normal?

The heat may or may not be normal, depending on what the actual temperature is.. and what the ambient temperature is.. As for the rate, that seems right..

It would be about 55C give or take a few degrees. I also heared a a low pitch sound coming out of the adapter. At its hottest point it can burn my fingers when they are held at that point for 10secs

Hmm.. 55 is about normal, I'd say... for an ambient temp of around 25ÂșC. The sound is more worrying, Have you seen another 1537 adapter, or do other owners also report the sound?

The adapter could be normal, but give dell a call.. just to make sure you don't have a faulty one..

Don't know anyone. The sound is not loud you had to go close to it to hear it.

Are you using a surface thermometer to test the temps? As remember the hand is not a thermometer and the temps we perceive from touch aren't always accurate...

The high pitch noise would make me replace it, but the adapter getting warm/hot is normal. It generates heat converting AC to DC and laptop power adaptors are passive cooled (meaning they don't use fans).
