    Hi,

I'm trying to install a CD-Rom game (Dawn of war fyi) on my Studio 1537 but when I insert the CD in the computer nothing happens. When I go to "My Computer" the drive reads "BD-ROM" (What does that mean), and if I click it nothing happens. Anyone had any similar problems and any tips on what to do?

    Thanks

I have had similar problems with my Inspiron 1545. Do you have another CD to try? How about a DVD, can you try one of those.

Also, try taking the disc out and checking it dor dirt and scratches.

Yeah I've tried with a couple of different CDs aswell as a couple DVD-movies. The drive loads fine and I can hear the CD spinning but nothing happens :(

Then have a chat with Dell tech support if you are still covered by the warranty.

If not, you could try cleaning the optical drive following something like this guide here: guide

Unfortunately optical drives on notebooks can give up the ghost quite early.

I take it yours is a blu-ray drive (eg BD-ROM)? If it is not, then it's possible that you might need to re-install the drivers.

No thats what so weird, I never ordered a Bluray drive and in the order form it states:

Optical Drive : 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including software

    --------
Written after the above, so I went to the device manager to see what the optical drives were named there, and, strange enough, my optical drive had been deactivated. I clicked activate and now it works again.

Thanks for pushing me in the right direction Fragile :)

no probs. Bizarre that windows thought it was a BD though; when it took me ages to get windows to realise that my drive actually was a blu-ray :)
