The Studio 1537 seems to have disappeared altogether from Dell.com; so thoroughly that it's almost as if they're trying to deny its existence. It was in their catalogue offers for a while (at $659 base-spec, later $634) and now has gone both from there and anywhere else I can find to look on the site. I had one priced up at $709 (later $684) with:

C2D T5800 (pretty sure it was the T5800, anyway)
    2GB RAM
    250GB hard drive
ATI Radeon HD 3450 256MB (which was standard on this configuration)
    1280x800 LED screen (also standard)
Backlit keyboard (the only option I added to the base spec)

...and as soon as I can actually pull the trigger on it, poof, it's gone altogether, seemingly vanished into the ether.

Even the Outlet site denies the 1537's existence; it just offers 1535 (Intel) and 1536 (AMD) models.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm not sure (the US site) has ever specifically presented it as the Studio 1537 (or the Studio 1737). From my experience, the site (and configurator) refers to it as simply the Studio 15 (or 17).

Aside from the itemized order confirmation / invoice, the only thing I've ever seen to indicate that it's a 37 (instead of 35) is that it can be configured with a P8400 or T9400 and 800MHz memory.

IIRC, it was presented briefly (as in, for a couple of days maybe) as the 1537, then it switched back to just 15.

I was on there most days. Coveting. ;)

From what I can tell it appears they sell them both at the same time. The cheaper two starting configurations are the 1535, then more expensive ones are the 1537. You can also tell the difference because only the 1535 has X3100 integrated graphics and the 1280x800 screen isn't LED, in the 1537 it's Intel 4500MHD graphics and the 1280x800 screen is LED.
